Senior Software Engineering Director - Patient Care Systems (Site Lead)
Medtronic
At Medtronic you can begin a life-long career of exploration and innovation, while helping champion healthcare access and equity for all. You’ll lead with purpose, breaking down barriers to innovation in a more connected, compassionate world.
A Day in the Life
At Medtronic Patient Care Systems (PCS), we power the digital heartbeat behind life-saving cardiac therapies. We build the connected ecosystem that enables clinicians to monitor, manage, and protect millions of patients living with implantable cardiac devices around the world.
From secure device connectivity and real-time data platforms to intelligent clinical tools and patient-facing experiences, PCS transforms complex cardiac data into clarity — helping physicians make faster decisions, improving outcomes, and giving patients greater confidence in their care.
Every line of code we write supports someone’s parent, spouse, child, or friend. Our work ensures that life-saving therapies are not only delivered safely and reliably, but continuously improved through innovation, insight, and global scale.
If you want to build technology that truly matters — where uptime means peace of mind and innovation means more birthdays — join us. Together, we are shaping the future of connected cardiac care and changing lives every single day.
Come for a job, stay for a career!
A Day in The Life Of:
- Powering the digital ecosystem that supports millions of patients living with implantable cardiac devices — technology that quietly protects human hearts every minute of every day
- Directly influencing whether clinicians receive timely, reliable insight that enables life-saving decisions. Uptime here isn’t a metric. It’s peace of mind for families
- Building and scaling a world-class engineering center in Galway that becomes part of the global nervous system behind cardiac care — shaping the future of connected therapies.
- Creating a follow-the-sun operating model with India and the broader global network so that patient monitoring and physician support never sleep
- Attracting and developing engineers who want their talent to mean something — building a team whose daily work translates into safer therapies and better outcomes.
- Accelerating time-to-productivity because patients can’t wait. Strong onboarding, clear enablement, and early impact mean innovation reaches the bedside faster
- Designing systems and operating rhythms that remove friction from the engineers building life-critical infrastructure — fixing root causes instead of managing exceptions.
- Raising the bar on engineering excellence — modern DevOps, clean CI/CD, automated testing, disciplined validation — because in cardiac care, “almost ready” is not good enough
- Engaging deeply in product strategy and architecture decisions that will shape reliability, scalability, and patient safety for years to come
- Strengthening the invisible digital foundation that helps millions of people live longer, fuller lives — work that translates into more ordinary days, more milestones, and more time with loved ones
Key Skills & Experience
Minimum Requirements

- Proven experience scaling software engineering organizations through multiple growth waves. Has built and scaled teams (including hiring, performance management, and leader development), ideally with experience leading multiple teams/managers
- Demonstrated ability to lead highly technical teams efficiently. A track record of balancing deep technical guidance with organizational leadership to drive product outcomes
- Technical leadership fluency: architecture, V&V, and technical roadmaps. Has a track record of providing technical direction on architecture/design and verification/validation, and building/maintaining long-term technical roadmaps aligned to product strategy
Preferred Qualifications
- Deep understanding of modern software development and delivery systems. Can credibly drive or sponsor modern agile development, testing discipline, and DevOps practices at scale
- Experience with complex software systems (so they can “see around corners”). Comfort with complex platform software environments (distributed computing, software infrastructure, embedded), even if their recent roles are more organizational and operational
- Cross-functional leadership in regulated environments. Can partner with Quality and Regulatory to ensure compliance with design controls and software lifecycle standards, and can run a site in an audit-ready way while still moving fast
- Cybersecurity and risk leadership mindset. Familiarity with cybersecurity practices, risk assessment, and vulnerability management expectations in regulated environments
- Global operating experience (explicitly including India collaboration). Has operated successfully with distributed teams across time zones, with the ability to create clarity in interfaces, decision rights, and working cadence across sites
- Experience managing delivery across Agile/SAFe and other traditional models (in a tailored as opposed to principled manner). Can drive process improvements to increase productivity while maintaining quality
- Experience with cloud-based or internet-related software tooling. Useful for modern platform operations and scalable engineering environments
