A Day in the Life

IT Technologist at Medtronic, emphasizing onsite technical support, infrastructure maintenance, vendor coordination, and collaboration across various environments, requiring technical expertise in networking, operating systems, and cybersecurity, with a commitment to diversity, inclusion, and continuous learning.

Willing to support after-hours, weekends and participate in on-call rotations when critical support is needed

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.

  • Provide onsite technical support, troubleshooting, diagnostics, and escalation for local and regional infrastructure services to ensure uninterrupted IT operations.

  • Deliver hands-on “smart hands and feet” support for network, server, endpoint, printer, and infrastructure equipment, including network closets.

  • Support network connectivity, device configuration, deployment, maintenance, and decommissioning across LAN and WAN environments.

  • Perform preventative maintenance and basic optimization for endpoints, operating systems, applications, and peripherals.

  • Execute basic infrastructure support tasks such as server reboots, compute support, and AV systems assistance.

  • Maintain technical expertise across LAN, WAN, operating systems, and core infrastructure technologies.

  • Develop, document, and maintain system designs, configuration standards, specifications, and operating procedures.

  • Evaluate hardware and software interactions to ensure system functionality, performance, compatibility, security, and compliance standards are met.

  • Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve system deficiencies, test system updates, modifications, and configurations.

  • Provide IT support across office, manufacturing, lab, and distribution environments.

  • Serve as the onsite point of contact and trusted advisor for I&O service delivery, ensuring stakeholder needs are understood, addressed, and escalated appropriately.

  • Build strong relationships with local and regional business leaders, Facilities, vendors, and IT stakeholders to support effective service delivery.

  • Facilitate communication and coordination between business stakeholders, IT product teams, and delivery teams.

  • Coordinate third-party maintenance, vendor services, quotations, and delivery of equipment and services; assess vendor versus internal resource needs.

  • Manage and support hardware lifecycle processes, including installations, upgrades, and decommissions.

  • Lead and coordinate local IT infrastructure projects from initiation through deployment and completion.

  • Assess and prioritize site-specific and regional technology demands; ensure infrastructure services perform as expected.

  • Drive continuous improvement by developing standards, playbooks, SOPs, and knowledge articles, and by identifying process enhancements that improve efficiency and user experience.

  • Document and maintain site inventory and contact information for accuracy and completeness.

  • Support response and resolution of site infrastructure incidents and outages.

  • Act as a liaison with key technology vendors, IT product teams other business functions to coordinate or drive delivery of infrastructure services at the site.

  • Provides onsite operational support for the organization's infrastructure services, ie. Local Area Networks (LANs); servers, etc.

  • Recommend adjustments or enhancements to improve systems and processes.

  • Involved in the planning of system development and deployment of site infrastructure services

  • Evaluate the use of vendors over own effort during assessment of IT activities.

  • Educate I&O services and capabilities, assist in driving technology adoption, leveraging I&O solutions.

  • Test the quality of a product/service and its ability to perform a task or solve a problem.

  • Perform basic maintenance and performance optimization procedures in each of the primary operating systems.

  • Participate in root cause analysis, problem management, and continuous improvement activities that improve and stabilize infrastructure services for assigned sites.

  • Recommend adjustments or enhancements to improve systems and processes.

  • Other duties as assigned

REQUIRED

Required Knowledge and Experience: 2+ years of experience with a high school diploma or equivalent.

NICE TO HAVE/STRONGLY PREFERRED

  • Strong proficiency in Windows/macOS, Active Directory, M365, and troubleshooting methodologies.

  • Ability to perform hands and feet infrastructure tasks (racking, cabling, console access) with guidance

  • Demonstrates a strong customer-support mindset along with excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.

  • Proven, repeatable troubleshooting routines that balance speed, safety, and documentation.

  • Solid grasp of infrastructure dependencies and how systems interconnect.

  • Knowledge of routing, switching, firewalls, wireless infrastructure.

  • Experienced in OS installations, basic configurations, and performing remote management tasks.

  • Commitment to continuous learning through formal training and self-directed education.

  • Adept at developing trusted partnerships with end users, identifying their requirements, and converting them into practical technology solutions.

  • Demonstrates strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Experience supporting collaboration platforms.

  • Understanding of basic cybersecurity principles and best practices

  • Hands-on work with knowledge management (creating/updating KBs, playbooks, runbooks).

  • Experience coordinating with cross-functional partners (engineering, security, procurement, facilities) to land end-to-end outcomes.

  • Solid grasp of infrastructure dependencies and how systems interconnect.

  • Comfortable working independently, supporting a broad set of technologies, and engaging directly with stakeholders.

  • Demonstrates practical expertise and competence in the role, typically acquired through a combination of advanced education and relevant experience. 2+ years of experience with a high school diploma or equivalent.

  • Previous Medtronic experience

  • Knowledge of routing, switching, firewalls, and wireless infrastructure.

  • Hands-on experience configuring, deploying, and supporting networks, servers, storage, and backup solutions.

  • Strong understanding of server and database infrastructure

  • Exposure to device management and compliance tooling for Windows and macOS, SCCM, Solarwinds and Nexthink.

  • Knowledge of VMware, Hyper-V, or other virtualization platforms

  • Ability to train or mentor other team members

Certifications:

  • CompTIA A+

  • CompTIA Network+

  • CompTIA Security+

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$75,200.00 - $112,800.00

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to those regular employees who work 20+ hours per week: Health, Dental and vision insurance, Health Savings Account, Healthcare Flexible Spending Account, Life insurance, Long-term disability leave, Dependent daycare spending account, Tuition assistance/reimbursement, and Simple Steps (global well-being program).
