Within Neuromodulation R&D, we develop cutting-edge therapies that modulate the nervous system. The Pain Interventions Research Manager leads research and technology strategy across SCS, TDD, and Interventional Pain (INTV), aligning with business priorities and R&D roadmaps. This role is responsible for designing and executing early-stage global studies, generating and disseminating insights, and advancing evidence and technology concepts to inform key portfolio decisions.
Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned:
Develop core scientific and technical expertise in Pain Interventions therapies
Evaluate, select and develop R&T personnel to ensure success of the function
Provide leadership for the conduct of research and in the development of technology for Pain Interventions therapies as it applies to product lifecycle
Design and execute preclinical and premarket clinical studies to evaluate scientific, clinical and technical feasibility of applying new therapy and technology concepts to current products and new innovations
Direct the Pain Interventions R&T team in the development and execution of research and technology projects including analyzing data, writing research reports, preparing and delivering presentation on the research, submitting patent disclosures, and publishing abstracts and high-quality peer-reviewed manuscripts
Collaborate closely with Marketing, Product Development, Regulatory, and Clinical Research teams to support development of new therapies, products and features
Represent Medtronic Neuromodulation externally and build a strong network with our Customers and Key Opinion Leaders for collecting critical input and feedback
Location: Rice Creek/Fridley, MN (Onsite)
Onsite: At Medtronic, we bring bold ideas forward with speed and decisiveness to put patients first in everything we do. This position requires onsite presence 5 days per week to drive performance, foster an environment of belonging, and collaborate to inspire as we engineer the extraordinary. This role will require <20% of travel to enhance collaboration and ensure successful completion of projects.
Must Have: Minimum Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Neuroscience, Biomedical Engineering or related field with minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, OR
Advance degree in Neuroscience, Biomedical Engineer or related field with minimum of 3 years of relevant experience
Nice to Have
PhD in Neuroscience, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field, with 3–5 years of industry experience preferred
Prior people management experience strongly preferred
Proven experience collaborating with clinicians on research initiatives
Strong background in laboratory and clinical research, including experimental design, data analysis, and interpretation
Knowledge of neural systems and pain mechanisms
Experience with neuromodulation technologies and product development
Expertise in translational neuroscience and/or neuromodulation, with a solid publication record in regulated environments
Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills for complex scientific and engineering challenges
Collaborative team player with strong leadership, mentorship, and cross-functional partnership skills
Familiarity with business development, market research, and voice-of-customer insights
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex concepts to diverse audiences
For Baccalaureate degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree that satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required.

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
