A Day in the Life

This role will be based at Medtronic’s North Haven, Connecticut campus—a flagship U.S. research, development, and manufacturing site with a long-standing legacy in advanced surgical technologies and medical devices. The North Haven site is a key hub within Medtronic’s Surgical Operating Unit and plays a critical role in developing and manufacturing innovative products that support patient care worldwide.

The individual in this role will work closely with the North Haven Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) team and will be responsible for administering and implementing environmental compliance programs in alignment with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as Medtronic corporate requirements. This position supports daily manufacturing and operations activities by ensuring environmental compliance, promoting environmental stewardship, and contributing to Medtronic’s broader commitment to sustainability, safety, and regulatory excellence across its operations.

Responsibilities include the list below. This individual will work closely with the Medtronic North Haven Environment, Health and Safety Team. The primary area of responsibility is administering and implementing environmental compliance programs in accordance with governmental and company requirements.

  • Work with a team to ensure environmental compliance is maintained for a medical device manufacturing site.

  • Evaluate new construction projects, new processes, process changes, etc. and determine the regulatory impact. Implement applicable environmental regulations and company requirements.

  • Review and analyze environmental documentation that is proposed and/or issued by a regulatory agency and determine the applicability and potential impact to the site.

  • Interact with all levels of the organization to ensure their programs meet both regulatory and company requirements, and are fully implemented across the site.

  • Ensure appropriate corrective and preventative actions are taken when an environmental incident occurs or a hazard is identified.

  • Work with a cross functional team to investigate environmental incidents, identify and implement corrective / preventative actions.

  • Co-lead the site Environmental Action Group (EAG) that implements pollution prevention activities (focused on waste minimization) and supports efforts to reduce environmental impact.

  • Provide/promote employee awareness/training on matters of environmental regulatory and company requirements.

  • Manage hazardous waste compliance for a Large Quantity Generator (LQG) site.

  • Collect and analyze data required for regulatory reporting. Examples of systems used for data storage include a gas chromatograph, heated flame ionization detector, SCADA systems. Utilize the data to generate regulatory reports such as Discharge Monitoring Reports (DMRs), Stormwater Discharge Monitoring Reports (SMRs), Bi-ennial Hazardous Waste report, Sterilizer NESHAP quarterly and semi-annual reports, Tier II report, TRI report, and monthly / annual air emission reports.

  • Conduct Spill Prevention Control & Countermeasures (SPCC) and Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) inspections and ensure timely implementation of corrective / preventative actions for any gaps identified.

  • Collect and compile site waste disposal data for company sustainability reporting .

  • Conduct wastewater, stormwater and waste sampling; analyze sample results.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience

  • OR an advanced degree with 0 years of experience.

Nice To Have

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

  • Ability to work with and analyze large datasets to support reporting and compliance activities.

  • Experience with AutoCAD, GIS, and/or Power BI is a plus.

  • Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization, including hourly employees, supervisors, managers, and site leadership.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently on small to moderately scoped projects.

For Baccalaureate degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree that satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required.

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$76,000.00 - $114,000.00

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
