Our Purpose

At our Engineering Maintenance Department in Medtronic plc, we focus on maximising equipment reliability through focused maintenance activities and improvements. The Snr. Automation Controls Engineer is directly involved in the integration and performance improvement of automated systems on the Parkmore site, for the achievement of our mission to contribute to human welfare by manufacturing products that alleviate pain, restore health, and extend life.

A Day in The Life Of:

  • Works as part of a cross functional Engineering Maintenance Team to maintain and improve equipment performance and reliability.

  • Lead teams in the application of formal, structured problem-solving initiatives to identify the root cause of equipment performance issues.

  • Develop and implement improvement plans and preventative actions to reduce and eliminate equipment automation failures.

  • Coach and mentor colleagues on automation aspects of machines and systems.

  • Draft standard corrective procedures for colleagues involved in the operation and maintenance of equipment.

  • Excellent interpretation of system and machine integration.

  • Liaise with stakeholders (Engineering, Projects, Operations, IT, Quality, Safety) on automation design improvements for equipment.

  • Champion hardware and software standardisation.

  • Lead software design reviews for equipment in development.

  • Lead software debugging for complex issues with automated equipment.

  • Support hypercare period for all incoming automated equipment to ensure successful implementation.

  • Support in house equipment development.

Key Skills & Experience

  • Minimum NFQ Level 8 Degree in Engineering / Science or a related discipline preferred.

  • Deep understanding of AB, Cognex, Keyence required.

  • Experience with Siemens, Beckhoff, Trio Motion Perfect, Kuka, Epson, UR Robots, Visual Studio, PackML preferred.

  • 4 years’ experience in an Engineering capacity, preferably in a highly regulated environment. Experience working in the medical device field will be an advantage.

  • Strong problem solving and project management skills.

  • Ability to coach colleagues on troubleshooting and issue resolution.
