A Day in the Life

This role supports One global, center led R&D Finance standard that enables enterprise business strategy alignment, financial transparency, and accountability across the R&D portfolio. The position is responsible for developing, governing, and leading consistent financial processes, insights, and decision frameworks that allow leaders to make nimble, data driven investment decisions—ultimately accelerating delivery of best in class technologies for patients. Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.

  • Design, implement, and continuously improve Global R&D Finance standards (planning, forecasting, capitalization, investment metrics, and reporting).

  • Establish strong governance to ensure consistency in project accounting, standard reporting to determine benchmarks and insights.

  • Drive adoption of standards through clear documentation, training, change management, and stakeholder engagement.

  • Enable high‑quality financial insights that connect investment, risk, progress, and outcomes across the R&D lifecycle.

  • Ensure financial insights are forward‑looking, actionable, and aligned to enterprise value creation and patient impact.

  • Manages staff by setting expectations, coaching performance, and supporting professional development to build a high‑performing team.

  • Partner closely with COE Team, R&D leaders, portfolio management, CFO/FP&A to ensure end‑to‑end alignment.

  • Serve as a connective leader between center‑led finance and business‑embedded teams, strengthening collaboration and shared accountability.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree with 7+ years of work experience in Finance and/or Accounting (Or Advanced Degree with 5+ years) plus 5+ years of progressive leadership experience

Nice to Have

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or Accounting

  • Individual that is motivated by continuous process improvement and strives to drive efficiencies and effectiveness for the function and overall business

  • Has the ability to see and understand the big picture and translate strategy into executable process improvements

  • Strong ability to drive change through leadership and influence

  • Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) work experience, including developing expense analytics

  • Excellent written/oral communication, collaboration, change management and presentation skills, including the ability to translate financial data into concise information for management

  • Strong organization and time management skills, including ability to manage multiple tasks, changing priorities and maintain accurate records.

  • Strong business acumen: ability to learn/understand the business and influence key stakeholders at various management levels to drive and increase value to the organization.

  • High level of initiative and self-motivation.

  • Ability to work independently with limited manager oversight.

  • Experience with projects that require high matrix collaboration, building relationships and influence.

  • Experience with Medtronic financial systems: SAP, OneStream, Power BI.

  • Experience with Microsoft Office tools including Excel, PowerPoint and Word.

  • MBA/CPA

For Baccalaureate degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree that satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required.

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$148,000.00 - $222,000.00

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to those regular employees who work 20+ hours per week: Health, Dental and vision insurance, Health Savings Account, Healthcare Flexible Spending Account, Life insurance, Long-term disability leave, Dependent daycare spending account, Tuition assistance/reimbursement, and Simple Steps (global well-being program).
