A Day in the Life

The Capital Equipment Assembly and Electromechanical Assembly Centres of Excellence define enterprise manufacturing strategies, standards and technology roadmaps that support product development, manufacturing operations and new product introductions. The function works across Operating Units, Research and Development, Quality, Supply Chain and manufacturing sites to advance scalable assembly technologies, equipment capabilities and process controls.

This position is based at the Medtronic facility in Mervue, Galway, Ireland. It is an onsite role, with employees working at the facility four days per week and requires up to 25% travel.

A Day in The Life Of:

As Capital and Electromechanical Centre of Excellence Strategy Leader, you will shape and execute enterprise strategies for capital equipment and electromechanical assembly. You will lead cross-functional Centres of Excellence, establish manufacturing technology standards, guide long-term investment and capability decisions, and accelerate the evaluation and deployment of technologies that improve product quality and manufacturing performance.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead the Capital Equipment Assembly and Electromechanical Assembly Centres of Excellence, setting enterprise strategy, capability priorities and technology roadmaps
  • Define and maintain manufacturing strategies that inform decisions on technologies, site capabilities, capacity, network design and future growth
  • Partner with Operating Units, Research and Development, Manufacturing, Quality and Supply Chain teams to identify future technology needs and align investment priorities
  • Establish and govern standards for assembly equipment, automation, process controls, quality systems and Design for X practices, including design for assembly, service, test and manufacture
  • Identify and evaluate emerging materials, tooling, processes and equipment technologies with internal teams, suppliers, academic institutions and industry partners
  • Direct rapid feasibility assessments and proof-of-concept activities that advance technology readiness and support investment decisions
  • Drive the industrialisation and deployment of scalable manufacturing technologies into existing operations and new product introductions
  • Provide technical leadership to manufacturing sites on process optimisation, equipment improvement, defect reduction, yield improvement and regulatory compliance

Key Skills & Experience

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and 10+ years of relevant experience, or Master’s degree and 8+ years of relevant experience or PHD and 6+ years of relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience developing and executing five-to-ten-year technology roadmaps for capital equipment, electromechanical assembly or manufacturing technologies
  • Experience with Design for X practices, particularly design for assembly, service, test and manufacture
  • Experience with manufacturing assembly technologies, including ultrasonic or laser welding, automation and controls, box builds, functional testing and electrostatic discharge protection
  • Experience across manual, semi-automated and fully automated manufacturing environments, including the industrialisation of technologies for manufacturing operations or new product introductions
  • Experience leading international, cross-functional initiatives through influence and communicating technology strategies to senior stakeholders
