Our company is currently seeking a highly motivated and exceptional scientist with a focus on advanced AI/ML approaches for small molecule modeling in the Computational and Structural Chemistry department at our South San Francisco site. The successful candidate will join multidisciplinary, highly collaborative discovery teams both locally and across the global network to contribute to the invention of novel medicines. This role involves both the development of innovative computational methods involving machine learning and computational chemistry, as well as direct application of advanced computational approaches to the invention of novel medicines.
Key Responsibilities:
Developing new workflows, including deep learning workflows, that enable the discovery of new medicines
Contribute to virtual screening and multi-parameter lead optimization for small molecules, peptides, and antibody-drug conjugates
Collaborate with interdisciplinary discovery teams to apply a variety of informatics and modeling techniques to identify new drug discovery leads and accelerate the evolution of leads to drug candidates
Continuing research in areas of machine learning and molecular modeling relevant to drug discovery, and maintaining an external scientific presence through high-impact publications and presentations
Education, mentoring, and sharing of AI/ML knowledge across the department and adjacent groups
Position Qualifications:
Required Education:
Ph.D. (or close to completion) in biophysics, biochemistry, chemistry, computational chemistry, computer science, applied math, engineering or related discipline
Required Experience and Skills:
A minimum of one (1) year experience with at least one major deep learning framework (PyTorch or equivalent)
Experience developing and applying computational chemistry and machine learning approaches towards chemistry problems of biological interest
Proficiency in Python for scientific computing
Knowledgeable in machine learning best practices
Experience with Linux and high-performance compute (HPC) environments
Multiple publications and/or external presentations demonstrating creative application of computational approaches to problems of biological interest
Strong written and oral communication skills
Preferred Experience and Skills:
Two (2) or more + years of machine learning and deep learning experience
Demonstrated ability to develop and apply machine learning to problems of chemical or biological interest
Experience with chemistry modeling packages such as MOE, Schrodinger, or OpenEye
Experience with Python toolkits such as OEChem and RDKit
Experience applying computational methods involving molecular dynamics or quantum chemistry to problems of biological interest
Experience working in multidisciplinary teams that include experimental scientists

U.S. Hybrid Work Model
Effective September 5, 2023, employees in office-based positions in the U.S. will be working a Hybrid work consisting of three total days on-site per week, generally Tuesday, Wednesday and either Monday or Thursday, although the specific days may vary by site or organization, with Friday designated as a remote-working day, unless business critical tasks require an on-site presence. Final determinations with respect to salary will take into account a number of factors, which may include, but not be limited to the primary work location and the chosen candidate’s relevant skills, experience, and education.
Expected salary range:
$151,900.00 - $239,200.00Available benefits include bonus eligibility, long term incentive if applicable, health care and other insurance benefits (for employee and family), retirement benefits, paid holidays, vacation, and sick days. A summary of benefits is listed here.
