Microsoft’s Azure Data engineering team is leading the transformation of analytics in the world of data with products like databases, data integration, big data analytics, messaging & real-time analytics, and business intelligence. The products our portfolio include Microsoft Fabric, Azure SQL DB, Azure Cosmos DB, Azure PostgreSQL, Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Service Bus, Azure Event Grid, and Power BI. Our mission is to build the data platform for the age of AI, powering a new class of data-first applications and driving a data culture.

Within Azure Data, the databases team builds and maintains Microsoft's operational Database systems. We store and manage data in a structured way to enable multitude of applications across various industries. We are on a journey to enable developer friendly, mission-critical, AI enabled operational Databases across relational, non-relational and OSS offerings.
We’re seeking a Software Engineer II to build and run reliable, scalable, and secure cloud services.
In this role, you’ll blend software engineering and systems expertise across the full-service deployment lifecycle. You’ll support mission-critical distributed systems and deliver great customer experience through automation, strong observability, and fast incident response.

Responsibilities

-Participate in the design for the end-to-end service deployment and onboarding lifecycle, focusing on maintaining service reliability, availability, and performance (SLA/SLO).
- Lead by example within the team by creating extensible and maintainable code and automation. Utilize metrics to enhance the quality and stability of the code, while adhering to suitable coding patterns and best practices.
- Participate in code reviews and ensure coding standards are followed. Consider diagnosability, reliability, and maintainability when reviewing code, and understand when code is ready to be shared or delivered.
-Implement monitoring, alerting, and observability solutions
-Partner with engineering teams to enable safe and efficient deployments
-Improve system scalability, resilience, and operational efficiency
-Monitor systems, troubleshoot issues, and drive incident resolution & RCA
-Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines and release automation

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications
-Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent
-2–4+ years in SRE / DevOps / Software Engineering
-Strong coding/scripting skills (Python, C#, Java, or similar)
-Strong problem-solving skills and data structure knowledge


Job Requirements: Other & Additional
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check:
• This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

-Cloud: Azure (preferred) / AWS / GCP
-Infrastructure provisioning: C#, CIS, EV2, YAML, PowerShell, CLI, Python
-CI/CD: Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, Jenkins
-Monitoring: Azure Monitor, Grafana, Prometheus
-OS: Linux / Windows

Preferred Qualifications:
-Experience with large-scale distributed systems or data platforms
-Familiarity with:
-Automation for service onboarding and deployment orchestration
-Containers and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes)
-Observability stacks and telemetry systems
-Incident management and postmortem culture
-Exposure to SRE practices (error budgets, reliability engineering)
