The Player Experiences and Platforms engineering team is looking for a Software Engineer I to help us build the future platform for Xbox experiences across Consoles, PCs, Handhelds, Mobile devices, Smart TVs, and Web browsers. In your role you will work alongside a diverse team of engineers, Program Managers, and designers to create technologies that empower team Xbox to delight gamers no matter where they play.

You will be collaborating on code bases that involve web and native code to create new platform features and ship new experiences directly to gamers. Working with other developers on the team, your feedback will help drive new requirements and best practices into the platform. The Software Engineer I will work to understand the challenges we face in building these scalable experiences and continually improve the platform capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • With guidance, learns to create and implement a feature by writing new code, reusing existing code and following proven patterns as applicable.
  • Applies existing technical knowledge and understanding to our various code bases, learning new languages, platforms, or frameworks as necessary.
  • Works with appropriate stakeholders to determine requirements for a feature, including internal developer customers and external users.
  • Acts as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) in monitoring product features for degradation, downtime, or interruptions for simple problems, and recommends actions to restore them.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline with proven experience coding in languages including, but not limited to, C++, Objective-C, Java, or JavaScript
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Experience shipping cross-platform applications using React Native
Preferred Qualifications

  • Understanding of modern app development against cloud service dependencies
  • Experience shipping web applications using React and Typescript
  • Technical knowledge and understanding of challenges related to the gaming space, including but not limited to responsive UX design across device form factors, navigational input including gamepad, touch, and mouse/keyboard.

Software Engineering IC2 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $76,400 - $151,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $100,300 - $165,400 per year.
