Security represents the most critical priorities for our customers in a world awash in digital threats, regulatory scrutiny, and estate complexity. Microsoft Security aspires to make the world a safer place for all. We want to reshape security and empower every user, customer, and developer with a security cloud that protects them with end to end, simplified solutions. The Microsoft Security organization accelerates Microsoft’s mission and bold ambitions to ensure that our company and industry is securing digital technology platforms, devices, and clouds in our customers’ heterogeneous environments, as well as ensuring the security of our own internal estate. Companies collectively have multitude of systems (devices, users, permissions, data systems etc.) and own Exabytes of data across hundreds of billions of streams, files, tables, reports, spreadsheets, VMs (Virtual Machines), Notebooks, and so on. Yet customers can’t answer basic questions like what systems do they have in their digital estate? What’s in those systems? Companies can’t govern or secure what they don’t know. Are the systems being used in ways that comply with both legal and corporate policies? Our team’s job is to answer these questions for customers across on-prem, multi-cloud, SaaS systems etc. by building a Software as a Service infrastructure to:

  • Inventory all the systems that exist in customers digital estate.
  • Automatically scan and categorize (classify, label etc.) all forms of data everywhere they live, from on-premises, to Azure, to other clouds to Software as a Service platforms,
  • Pre-integrate data in customers digital estate, normalize it in a standard format to make security log retention and use significantly more affordable with less effort.
  • Enable customers to define policies they need to meet corporate and government compliance requirements and then enforce those policies on the customer's behalf and
  • Make all this data discoverable and re-usable at scale,
  • Lay the foundations for effective data governance, compliance, privacy and security.
