And we are working with strategic ISV partners, bringing cutting edge OSS services to Azure to help developers build their applications on Azure. The team is also building services to help developers and development teams function at their creative best to deliver the applications they want at high quality meeting the needs of their business efficiently.
We are hiring seasoned Engineering Managers to lead new projects related to Azure services in the above areas. As a Principal Engineering Manager, you will provide technical and people leadership for an excellent team of engineers. You will have end-to-end ownership for the service, and you will be responsible for stakeholder collaboration, design, roadmap planning, technical direction, and efficient execution with agile delivery. You will be an excellent manager supporting your team members and help them grow in a healthy and inclusive work environment while exemplifying Microsoft culture and values.
Qualifications
Required:
- BE/BTech/BS or MS degree in Computer Science or equivalent field.
- 10+ years of industry experience building and shipping software using modern programming languages such as C#, C++, Java, Go or Python.
- Track record of delivering significant engineering projects across multiple ship cycles.
- At least 4 years of experience in people management.
- Demonstrated history of leading successful engineering teams that work well together.
- Strong technical and problem-solving skills.
- Customer obsession and passion for shipping high quality products.
- Excellent planning, execution, and communication skills.
Preferred:
- Experience working in a Linux environment and/or with open source projects
- Experience building and shipping a large-scale cloud service is a big plus
- Experience with cloud infrastructure such as Azure, AWS or GCP
- Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and DevOps tools and processes
- Experience working with geo-distributed engineering teams and XFN partners
- Experience in site-reliability engineering practices and supporting scalable live site services
- Experience growing and mentoring senior engineers
Other Requirements
- Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
- Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Responsibilities
- Lead, hire, and grow a diverse world-class team of software engineers.
- Lead delivery for a highly scalable cloud native service working with engineers and peer teams.
- Partner with product management, partners, customers, and other stakeholders to define requirements, scope projects and ship products in rapid, iterative cycles.
- Stay up to date on industry trends around web development, testing, cloud native technologies, OSS and dev ops processes, mentoring team on innovation, modern design, and service engineering.
- Support customers and live site in a dev ops model.
- Build for security, privacy, scale, reliability, and compliance.
- Lead others by exemplifying growth mindset, inclusiveness, teamwork, and customer obsession.
- Mentor, coach and grow engineers while modeling care, respect, and inclusiveness.
