Overview

Microsoft Teams is a new application in the Office365 family. We believe the modern workspace is underserved by the existing software solutions and we are building Microsoft Teams, the new, truly modern collaboration and productivity hub for the workspace. Microsoft Teams is also a platform for ISVs to build on and extend their applications into the 100M+ Office 365 user base. This is a v1 product and will provide you with an opportunity to work with teams and technologies across the company and beyond. The Microsoft Teams product group is expanding to India and will soon start a group at India Development Center in Bangalore. We believe that making data-driven decisions using client and server telemetry provides a huge leap forward in understanding customer’s experiences as well as identifying product gaps and live site issues. What factors affect the quality of the user experience? What drives user engagement and how can we continuously improve it with data and analytics? How does a new feature impact Office365 enterprise adoption? Our dev team is pushing the envelope for how data is leveraged and helping change the way software is built; the work you do will have a direct impact in Microsoft and its current and future line of products and services. Our team is looking for a passionate and motivated technical lead engineer to build highly scalable, performant and robust data pipelines and reporting services enabling others to look for product insights in the ocean of data that we are collecting. Our dev team is pushing the envelope for how data is leveraged and helping change the way software is built; the work you do will have a direct impact in Microsoft through Teams and Office 365.

Our team is looking for a passionate and motivated engineer with a passion to enable the best possible experiences to our customers. You are obsessed about users’ experience across a range of form factor surfaces. Comfortable dealing with ambiguity and a shifting landscape. Have experience with Azure or other cloud services, passionate about iterating fast, and getting the right design for our customers. With entrepreneurial spirit and a can-do attitude. Curious about machine learning, understand efficient data structures, familiar with algorithms and have a track record of shipping software-based services.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science or a related field
  • Exemplary design and problem-solving skills, with a proven track record of engineering excellence at scale
  • 8+ years of experience in writing bug free code, covering all corner cases.
  • Experience in web-based application development technologies and frameworks (with HTML5, JavaScript/TypeScript/ReactJS/AngularJS/Electron)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, curiosity and willingness to learn, share and improve.

  • Proven track record as a strong performer with significant direct technical contribution.
  • Will apply modern UI design principles and ensure the best experience across all applications in the suite.

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Azure, Exchange, Office 365 services fabric or other large scale services.
  • Experience in statistical data analysis at web-scale.
  • Experience in Telemetry Dashboards and other user interface to present results of analytics.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Proven track record as a strong performer with significant direct technical contribution.
  • Will apply modern UI design principles and ensure the best experience across all applications in the suite.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with appropriate stakeholders to determine user requirements for a scenario.
  • Drives identification of dependencies and the development of design documents for a product, application, service, or platform.
  • Creates, implements, optimizes, debugs, refactors, and reuses code to establish and improve performance and maintainability, effectiveness, and return on investment (ROI).
  • Leverages subject-matter expertise of product features and partners with appropriate stakeholders (e.g., project managers) to drive a workgroup's project plans, release plans, and work items.
  • Acts as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) and guides other engineers by developing and following the playbook, working on call to monitor system/product/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions, alerting stakeholders about status and initiates actions to restore system/product/service for simple and complex problems when appropriate.
  • Proactively seeks new knowledge and adapts to new trends, technical solutions, and patterns that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while also driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale.
