The Azure Core Compute host team is responsible for customer-facing general-purpose compute offerings and management across virtual machines (VMs), containers, bare metal as well as exploring forward-looking host technologies including evolving the host OS, utilizing hardware offloads and leveraging disaggregation. As a mission-critical cloud platform, our goal is to ensure industry-leading availability, reliability, performance consistency at scale, compliance and security.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline with proven experience coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, or Rust.

Other Qualifications:

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
    • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 1+ year(s) technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, or Rust.
    • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field with proven experience coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, or Rust.
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Experience with improving service operations or engineering quality and fundamentals.
  • Experience in building System Software that run on Windows or Linux systems.
  • Experience with Hyper-V, VMWare, Docker or other virtualization technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Develop systems and frameworks to enhance the quality and fundamentals of the systems. Utilize AI and advanced telemetry to generate insights and improve the overall quality of the product.
  • Creates and implements code for a product, service, or feature, reusing code as applicable.
  • Contributes to identification of dependencies, efforts to break down larger work items into smaller work items to bring clarity and provide estimation.
  • Independently create a clear and articulated plan for testing and assuring quality of solutions.
  • Leverage performance and profiling tools to identify hot spots and bottlenecks across hardware and software boundaries.
  • Acts as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) working on-call to monitor system/product feature/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions and gains approval to restore system/product/service for simple problems.
  • Act as a DRI for release management, ensure the release sticks to the schedule by identifying reasons for blockers/delays, improve the signals that are blocking deployments, triage the issues are new vs existing, mitigate and work towards improving the release process.
  • Remains current in skills by investing time and effort into staying abreast of current developments that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while also driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale.
