Overview

Microsoft AI is looking for a talented web engineer to help build the next wave of capabilities of our personalized AI assistant, Copilot. We’re looking for someone who will bring an abundance of positive energy, empathy, and kindness to the team every day, in addition to being highly effective. The right candidate enjoys building world-class consumer experiences and products in a fast-paced environment. The Growth engineering team is responsible for user acquisition, engagement, retention, and feature development that drives rapid growth, while collaborating with our Product Management, Design, Data Scientists, and AI Research teams to deliver impactful results.

Our newly formed organization, Microsoft AI (MAI), is dedicated to advancing Copilot and other consumer AI products and research. The team is responsible for Copilot, Bing, Edge, and generative AI research. Come be a part of the team shaping the future personal computing.

By applying to this U.S. Mountain View, CA position, you are required to be local to the San Francisco area and in office 3 days a week.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, or related technical discipline AND 4+ years technical engineering experience developing web applications with coding in languages including, but not limited to, JavaScript, TypeScript, React, CSS, Node.js, app performance profiling OR equivalent experience. Working knowledge of web browser, web protocols, mainstream frameworks, application architecture, design patterns, and UI/UX principles.
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years of experience in growth engineering or a growth-oriented role is strongly preferred. Demonstrated success in driving key growth metrics, including acquisition, engagement, and retention. A data-driven engineer who can provide concrete examples of initiatives you’ve built and shipped. Past growth achievements will be considered during the application process.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Contributions to open-source projects.
  • Experience building web applications from scratch.
  • Experience in internationalization and localization, scaling products, applications, and engineering efforts to drive global growth.
  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work closely with cross-functional teams, including product managers, designers, and other engineers.
  • Passion for learning new technologies and staying up to date with industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in web development and AI.
  • Proven ability to collaborate and contribute to a positive, inclusive work environment, fostering knowledge sharing and growth within the team.
Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.
Software Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.

  • Care deeply about building outstanding consumer-grade web applications.
  • Build consumer grade applications for web.
  • Ship high-quality, well-tested, secure, and maintainable code.
  • Work with product managers, data scientists, and marketing to implement strategies that drive user growth, engagement, and retention. This includes optimizing onboarding flows, improving product features, and delivering scalable infrastructure.
  • Find a path to get things done despite roadblocks to get your work into the hands of users quickly and iteratively.
