Overview
Developers rely on many components to build software, including open-source packages, container images and infrastructure-as-code configuration files. Maintaining an inventory of those components and keeping them up to date is paramount to every modern application’s security and imposes a big cost on development teams. Moreover, the evolving environment of cybersecurity is such that new threat vectors are discovered often and require developers to quickly update their code to keep it protected.
To address those issues, we have services that can run on every build at Microsoft, building an inventory of all external dependencies being used and that can submit pull requests to remediate issues identified in them. We are results driven and constantly monitor several metrics dependencies identified, merge rates for remediation PRs, time to merge and alert coverage.
As a Senior Software Engineer in the supply chain security team, you will work with the team in the architecture, design, code and monitoring for our services that track the inventory of our open-source dependencies, their vulnerabilities and risks, and keep them up to date. You will also explore other problems in the software supply chain security domain, including package consumption, integrity, and policy management. We’re a remote friendly team, with engineers working in different parts of the US.
Microsoft’s mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. As employees we come together with a growth mindset, innovate to empower others, and collaborate to realize our shared goals. Each day we build on our values of respect, integrity, and accountability to create a culture of inclusion where everyone can thrive at work and beyond.
