Bing Fundamentals team focuses on providing a search and recommendation platform for Microsoft internal partners using the documentation recall and reranking backend service suite. As a team, we manage one of the world’s largest distributed systems and have experienced success in building efficient large scale distributed systems.


Within Bing Fundamentals, Bing Fundamentals Core team aims to build the cloud-native platform for Bing and Microsoft AI, which can enable cost-effective and productive use of managed services by enabling delegation of implementations to those providers while maintaining control over user experience.

We are hiring a Software Engineer II, Bing Fundamentals and are looking to push the boundaries of what is possible, again. You can help empower the org to achieve more by delivering capacity differentiated at scale for all cloud services, such as Hadoop and Kubernetes. We are building software systems that give Microsoft the ability to succeed in an ever-changing business environment. We are looking for a candidate who can contribute towards innovation in the areas of customer experience, automation of our processes and system, data driven solutions using modern web technologies, while continuously improving operational excellence (security, resiliency, scalability, costs). Successful candidate will be able to combine their deep technical skills, collaboration skills, customer obsession, and leadership skills to design and deliver world-class software platforms that delight our customers. You will also have the opportunity to build services that enable big data developers to build mission critical applications with high levels of Service Level Agreement (SLA). As an engineer in our team, you will work on and extend Open-Source Software (OSS) technologies like Apache Hadoop, Spark, Delta Lake, Kubernetes as well as proprietary Microsoft services.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 1+ years of experience with one or more modern web technologies such as .NET, Node, React, Angular, building RESTful APIs, and hands-on knowledge of web concepts such as HTTP and MVC.
  • 1+ years of hands-on engineering experience developing large-scale distributed systems.

Additional or Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Big Data technologies like Apache Spark, Hadoop, and Kubernetes.
  • Proven ability to design and develop loosely coupled, componentized, and durable software that can be easily extended and meets requirements on time.
  • Demonstrated strength to quickly get up-to-speed and be productive on new technical domains and are comfortable in dealing with ambiguity.

Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $98,300 - $193,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $127,200 - $208,800 per year.
