Azure Hardware Systems and Infrastructure (AHSI) is a diverse organization within Azure comprising more than 3,500 people across the United States in the Puget Sound, Silicon Valley, Hillsboro, Oregon and Raleigh, North Carolina, and internationally across Europe, Asia, and Australia.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Masters’s Degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering or related field.
  • Must have at least one additional quarter/semester of school remaining following the completion of the internship.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Majored in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Space Engineering, Marine Engineering, Ocean Engineering, Systems Engineering or related field.

Responsibilities

Quality & Reliability Engineer Intern:

  • Assists senior Thermal/Mechanical engineer and Quality PM in identifying process improvements for their respective production areas.
  • Develops an understanding of how to read component/sub-component/device specification sheets and interprets basic details required to produce, assemble, and/or qualify Thermal/Mechanical hardware features with guidance from others.
  • Uses predictive modeling techniques (e.g., thermal simulation,tolerance analysis, Six Sigma) to inform and optimize manufactory quality for a well-defined product, part, component, sub-assembly, or final assembly.
  • Learns how to maintain contact and relationships with ODM factory and/or supplier stakeholders to drive yield.
  • Develops qualification process and criteria to calibrate product quality (e.g., Thermal liquid cooling…).

Thermal Engineer Intern:

  • Works with senior Thermal Engineers to lead the thermal design and analysis of cloud hardware components, including servers, racks, power distribution systems, and cooling systems.
  • Collaborates closely with cross-functional teams, including electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, and system architects, to develop and implement thermal solutions that meet performance and reliability requirements.
  • Learns how to conduct thermal simulations, modeling, and analysis to assess system-level thermal performance and optimize cooling strategies.
  • Reviews and defines thermal design guidelines, specifications, and test plans for cloud hardware products.
  • Evaluates and selects appropriate cooling technologies, such as liquid cooling, air cooling, and heat sinks, to ensure efficient heat dissipation and thermal management.
