We are seeking Applied Scientist II's and Senior Applied Scientist with a proven track record of shipping at-scale intelligent systems. You will architect, design and ship intelligent systems assisting users writing code for Microsoft Excel using state-of-the-art techniques in large language models, deep learning, program synthesis and information retrieval. You will collaborate with world-class engineers in a fast-paced, dynamic and learning-oriented environment, creating AI applications that solve real-world problems for customers around the world.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 2+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)
- OR Master's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 1+ year(s) related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)
- OR Doctorate in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field
- OR equivalent experience.
- 1+ years experience in applying machine learning techniques and driving end-to-end AI product development.
- 1+ years experience working with Large Language Models.
Other Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
- Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

- Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 4+ years related experience (e.g., statistics predictive analytics, research)
- OR Master's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)
- OR Doctorate in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 1+ year(s) related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)
- OR equivalent experience.
- 4+ years experience in applying machine learning techniques and driving end-to-end AI product development.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively end-to-end in a challenging technical problem domain (plan, design, execution, continuous release, and service operation).
- Experience with shipping internet scale, low latency and high availability.
- Experience with Microsoft Excel.
- Experience with python programming.
- Experience with Applications of Foundation Models, Domain Adaptation of Foundation Models (e.g. fine-tuning LLMs/SLMs).
- Experience with Prompt optimizations, Data Mining with language models, Agentic systems.
Applied Sciences IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $100,600 - $199,000 per year.
There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $131,400 - $215,400 per year.
Applied Sciences IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year.
There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $158,400 - $258,000 per year.

Responsibilities
- Conduct rigorous analysis to evaluate the performance of intelligent applications, identify areas for improvement, and iterate.
- Executing projects from design through implementation, experimentation and finally shipping to our users.
- Integrate experiments into production systems by implementing them and maintain and optimize their performance.
- Understand broad areas of research and techniques, as well as a knowledge of industry trends to apply this in the product.
- Prepare data for analysis by applying quality and technical constraints. Review data and suggest data to be included and excluded and address data quality problems.
- Assist with the development of usable datasets for modeling purposes and support the scaling of product ideas.
