Overview

OneDrive and SharePoint (ODSP) are rapidly growing services at the center of Microsoft's cloud, interacting with almost every part of Microsoft. You would be a part of a team that is fundamentally changing the way that millions of people use their devices and interact with the most important content for their home, work, and school.


In this team, you will work on a platform that enables "ultimate" Progressive Web Applications that will make web applications faster, resilient to transient service issues, and enable a full offline experience with 2-way synchronization. As part of this team, you will explore novel web application architectures and push the envelope on what modern web applications can do. You'll leverage a wide range of technologies including service workers and web caching technologies, React and JavaScript, browser extensions, native code in C++, Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) and security mechanisms, SQL databases and synchronization algorithms.

As a Software Engineer II in our team, you will contribute to and help shape the vibrant, inclusive engineering culture of OneDrive & SharePoint. You will be expected to do deep, data-driven, collaborative design for additions and changes to our products. You will write clean, efficient code and comprehensive tests. You will build coverage with metrics and telemetry to ensure we understand exactly what is happening with our services at all times. And you will deliver features that will support and serve hundreds of millions of customers around the world.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years of experience working in backend systems.
  • Experience in coding, debugging, algorithm design, and problem-solving skills.

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to work across and partner with multiple engineering teams to achieve business goals.
  • Experience with React, JavaScript, Service Workers, PWAs, and SQLite are all major pluses.
  • Experience in developing, debugging and maintaining code in object oriented languages and database querying languages.

Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $100,600 - $199,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $131,400 - $215,400 per year.

Responsibilities

  • Contributing to product architecture and design proposals.
  • Developing automation for production and deployment testing and assuring quality of solutions and maintaining code quality standards.
  • Managing live service operations on a rotational, on-call basis.
  • Integration of telemetry data and monitoring service for degradation and downtime.
