Overview
Azure Compute team builds a fault tolerant, distributed system on top of datacenter hardware to deliver infrastructure for hosting cloud applications in virtual machines (VMs). The team is responsible for the platform that ensures the compute resources are limitless, elastic, and always available.
The role is within the team that maintains the control plane of Azure, supports its growth, works on its modernization, while reducing the cost of running the control plane. The team also owns the services that are responsible for the health of millions of Azure machines as well as the control plane services that make all repair decisions in Azure.
As a Senior Software Engineer you will be joining a talented team that invests in our people and technology for the long term. Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR equivalent experience.
- 4+ years of Distributed Systems experience.
Other Requirements:
- Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
- Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science
- OR related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, OR Python
- OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.
Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $158,400 - $258,000 per year.

Responsibilities
• Leads the design and architecture of change management features and services in Azure Compute
• Identifies dependencies and authors design documents for features and services.
• Leverages expertise with appropriate stakeholders to develop project plans, release plans, and work items.
• Develop high quality, extensible, maintainable code and coach others to do the same.
• Supports live site as Designated Responsible Individual (DRI), mentoring engineers across products/solutions, working on-call to monitor system/product/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions.
• Proactively seeks new knowledge and adapts to new trends, technical solutions, and patterns that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while also driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale and shares knowledge with other engineers.
