Overview

Are you looking to apply your knowledge of statistics, machine learning, AI, and data analytics to help deliver new software innovation that delights our customers and increases the satisfaction of the engineers who write the code? The Engineering Systems 365 (ES365) team is looking for a Senior Data Scientist to join our team! Our systems are key to ensuring that code changes move quickly and efficiently from inception to release with provable high quality, at scale, across multiple endpoints, platforms, and device form factors – all while doing so securely and managing costs responsibly.


As a Senior Data Scientist in ES65 you will understand complex business problems and use analytical techniques to find insights that transform our business and customer experiences. Qualified candidate are technical, and should be experienced working with leadership to identify business or engineering problems, translate them to Data Science problems, conduct the appropriate analysis & modeling to reveal actionable insights, and then communicate the impact to the leadership team to drive change.

In this role Engineers, Product Managers, Applied Researchers and other disciplines in the Experiences + Devices division and across Microsoft will be customers of your work. You’ll have the M365 Leadership Team heavily invested in your success and impact. You will build connections with other Engineering Systems teams across Microsoft, and together you will work to identify, define, and adopt best practices from within the company and the industry.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Doctorate in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field AND 1+ year(s) data-science experience (e.g., managing structured and unstructured data, applying statistical techniques and reporting results)
    • OR Master's Degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field AND 3+ years data-science experience (e.g., managing structured and unstructured data, applying statistical techniques and reporting results)
    • OR Bachelor's Degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field AND 5+ years data-science experience (e.g., managing structured and unstructured data, applying statistical techniques and reporting results)
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years customer-facing, project-delivery experience, professional services, and/or consulting experience.
  • 3+ years of experience working with data analysis languages and tools such as Python, R, Kusto
    • OR equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

    • OR Bachelor's Degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field AND 7+ years data-science experience (e.g., managing structured and unstructured data, applying statistical techniques and reporting results)
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Understanding of the Software Development Lifecycle and familiarity with common software engineering tools (Git, Azure DevOps/GitHub, etc).

Data Science IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $158,400 - $258,000 per year.

Responsibilities

  • Engage with stakeholders to understand and address their business problems with data-driven solutions. Have curiosity and apply analytical skills to dive deep into data to find key insights that impact the business.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on advanced analytics, partnering with other teams to apply and leverage this skillset to guide data-driven decision making while mentoring product managers, researchers, and engineers in data best practices.
  • Work with coworkers, partners and customers to define and develop data needs, research questions, data pipelines, analysis plans, and deliverable timelines.
  • Translate complex technical findings into succinct, actionable business insights, often in coordination with partners who help you tell a holistic story.
  • Occasionally support high priority ad hoc requests from company and Engineering leadership.
  • Passion for innovation and discovering new insights into engineering analytics by leveraging advanced machine learning techniques and AI as well as continued learning in these disciplines.
