Overview
The Windows and Devices (W+D) Fundamentals team is responsible for the reliability, performance, battery life and sustainability of Windows devices.
Our work touches the full stack of hardware and OEM partners, the operating system as well as the application layers to protect, manage and improve the Fundamentals of the Windows ecosystem.
We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to help us shape the next wave of innovations to optimize the Fundamentals of Windows devices.
As we pursue key advances in the areas of AI, silicon and software, we remain laser-focused on establishing Fundamentals as a delighter for the Copilot+ PC brand.

The set of tools/technologies we use to achieve our objectives include C, C++, C#, scripting, Windbg, Cosmos/Kusto/Asimov and other trace processing applications in Azure, python, machine learning models, Power BI, statistics, Windows Performance Analyzer and ETW (Event Tracing for Windows) tracing.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#
- OR equivalent experience.
- 2+ years in system analysis with emphasis on low-level debugging.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with OS architecture and system-level development.
- Track record of working and delivering high-reliability systems.
- Debugging capabilities towards optimizing systems.
- Proven design, programming, and problem-solving skills.
- Proven technical leadership and collaboration skills.
- Ability to deal with ambiguity and prioritize investments leveraging data.
Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $158,400 - $258,000 per year.

Responsibilities
- Characterize how software and hardware behave locally and at scale through debugging and analysis of telemetry/trace data.
- Identify opportunities and lead design and architecture of improvements and optimizations.
- Implement code changes across the software/hardware stack.
- Deliver improvements that are robust and of high-quality considering tradeoffs and consistency of the technology stack.
