Overview

Microsoft Silicon Cloud Hardware Infrastructure Engineering (SCHIE) is the team behind Microsoft’s expanding Cloud Infrastructure and responsible for powering Microsoft’s “Intelligent Cloud” mission. SCHIE delivers the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's over 200 online businesses including Bing, MSN, Office 365, Xbox Live, Skype, OneDrive and the Microsoft Azure platform globally with our server and data center infrastructure, security and compliance, operations, globalization, and manageability solutions.

We are seeking a Director of Qualification Engineering to join our team!

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 7+ years technical engineering experience OR Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience OR equivalent experience.
  • 7+ years of experience managing engineering teams with technical management, program management, and cross-group collaboration skills.

Other Qualifications:

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience leading and managing a large scale test, development, and qualification team for Cloud infrastructure or hardware products.
  • Intellectual curiosity and a passion about learning and deploying new technologies, including experience developing new memory technologies and platforms.
  • Experience with software automation for test of large-scale distributed systems and datacenter infrastructure for compute, storage, and Al GPU applications.
  • Experience managing complex partner engagement and leading engineering collaboration.
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve results, create a high-performing, healthy and scalable organization.
  • Ability to apply a variety of strategic frameworks to analyze problems and guide solutions.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with executives and technology leaders inside and outside of Microsoft.

Hardware Engineering M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $139,900 - $274,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $188,000 - $304,200 per year.

Responsibilities

  • Team Leadership: Manage and mentor a team of hardware and software engineers, providing guidance, support, and technical expertise. Foster a collaborative and innovative work environment, encouraging professional growth and development.
  • Team Management: Define goals, objectives, and timelines for the test and qualification engineering team. Coordinate with cross-functional teams, such as system engineering, firmware engineering, software engineering, and program management, to ensure alignment and timely execution of Commodity, Sku, Rack, and Cluster cloud infrastructure qualification.
  • Design and Development: Develop the test and qualification processes needed to support the growth of the Azure Cloud business and to ensure high quality products are deployed to the production data centers. Develop and leverage automated test processes for quality and efficiency.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Foster great partnerships with cross-functional teams to ensure smooth collaboration throughout the product development lifecycle. Effectively communicate project updates, technical insights, and recommendations to senior management and stakeholders.
  • Continuous Improvement: Foster a culture of continuous improvement by promoting innovation, implementing engineering best practices, and driving efficiency initiatives. Encourage the use of data analysis techniques to enhance the design process and optimize performance.
  • Vendor Management: Evaluate and select external vendors and suppliers for test and qualification services. Build and maintain great relationships with vendors to ensure timely delivery, quality control, and cost-effective solutions.
