Overview
As a Microsoft Data Center Technician (DCT) Manager, you will lead a team of technicians, providing expert guidance on performing hardware deployments, diagnostics on equipment, and hardware decommissions. You will support technician performance, prioritizing technician tasks while monitoring Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and Service Level Agreements (SLAs). Microsoft’s Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) is the engine that powers our cloud services. As a CO+I DCT Manager, you will perform a key role in delivering the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's online services including Bing, Office 365, Xbox, OneDrive, and the Microsoft Azure platform. Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
-
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and basic knowledge of computer hardware and components AND 3+ years experience supporting IT equipment or related technology or related experience working with teams
OR equivalent experience.
1+ year(s) experience directing, supervising, or managing others or leading a project.
Other Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
- Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate's degree in Computer Science or realted field AND 6+ years experience supporting IT equipment or related technology
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field AND 5+ years experience supporting IT equipment or related technology
- OR equivalent experience.
- 3+ years experience working in a production, mission-critical 24x7x365 datacenter environment.
- Applicable certifications: Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) Foundation, ASICS/Inventory Control, CompTIA (A+, Server+, Network+), Basic Structure Cabling (BSC), Certified Data Center Professional (CDCP), Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP), Six Sigma Green Belt).
- 2+ years experience leading a diverse team.

Responsibilities
People Management

Datacenter Operations
- Guide technicians on IT equipment handling, infrastructure interactions, and standard procedures.
- Promote ITIL practices and evaluate process changes to improve service quality and efficiency.
- Ensure policy compliance, resolve operational issues, and provide feedback to management.
Service Delivery
- Coordinate technician training and ensure access to tools and resources for task execution.
- Investigate root causes of KPI-impacting issues and enforce quality checks and standards.
- Validate post-task compliance and collaborate with partners to correct design or deployment errors.
Managing Service
- Track and analyze team KPIs, share feedback, and drive performance improvements.
- Manage escalations and collaborate with stakeholders to mitigate risks and ensure compliance.
- Assign and verify completion of training across technician roles and advise on certifications.
Datacenter Work Environment
- Lead safety briefings, ensure EHS compliance, and promote a proactive safety culture.
- Enforce physical security protocols and manage access violations and incident reporting.
- Foster team collaboration, share best practices, and monitor work impact across shifts.
Physical Requirements (Applies to but is not limited to US-based Data Center roles)
- Occasional climbing of ladders.
- Frequent climbing of stairs and/or ramps.
- Prolonged standing.
- Occasional lifting 50lbs. / 22.5kg.
- Occasional push or pull 50-75lbs. / 22.5-34kg. with assistive device.
- Normal visual acuity (near, far and peripheral with correction).
- Normal color vision for electrical work.
- Normal is defined via standard medical terms and applicable criteria.
