The Identity & Network Access (IDNA) Organization delivers identity and access solutions that empower billions of users globally. At the core of this mission, the Reliability, Resilience, and LiveSite (R2L) Team ensures our identity services are among the most trusted and dependable in the industry. We’re looking for a Principal Manager, Technical Program Management to lead this high-impact team. This Hybrid Position can be located at our Microsoft offices in Redmond, Washington, Mountain View, California, or Atlanta, Georgia. Relocation support will be provided, and successful candidates will need to relocate or reside within 50 miles of the field location.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 6+ years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years of experience as a people manager leading and developing high-performing teams, including hiring, coaching, and driving career growth for direct reports.
  • 3+ years of experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.
  • Experience in managing and developing Technical Program Management teams delivering reliability and operational excellence for large-scale cloud infrastructure or other mission-critical services.
  • Experience in live site operations, including incident detection, response, root cause analysis, and applying reliability engineering practices to drive continuous improvement.

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Additional or Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 10+ years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 8+ years of experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.
  • 1+ year(s) of experience reading and/or writing code (e.g., sample documentation, product demos).
Technical Program Management M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $139,900 - $274,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $188,000 - $304,200 per year.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and grow a high-performing team of Technical Program Managers focused on service reliability, operational excellence, and quality.
  • Define strategy, set clear priorities, and establish execution rhythms to deliver measurable outcomes.
  • Own the full incident management lifecycle, including detection, response, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement.
  • Drive programs that strengthen reliability and resilience for large-scale identity services.
  • Improve engineering efficiency through automation, streamlined processes, and reduction of manual work.
  • Deliver complex, cross-functional initiatives in partnership with engineering, product, compliance, and finance teams.
  • Represent the team in executive forums, providing clear updates on service health and strategic initiatives.
  • Evolve organizational structure, readiness plans, and operational playbooks to support growth and scalability.
  • Champion a culture of accountability, inclusion, and technical excellence across the organization.
  • Influence long-term strategy for reliability and resilience in mission-critical identity services.
