We are part of the Azure networking team responsible for designing, building, and operating critical services for customers. Our responsibilities include enabling hybrid connectivity to allow enterprises to connect to Azure, application load balancing, secure virtual machine (VM) access, network function virtualization (NFV), and application and network security services. At the core of these services is a robust software-defined networking (SDN) and network function virtualization (NFV) infrastructure, which we continuously innovate to enhance the agility, scalability, reliability, and cost-effectiveness of our services.

We are looking for a Principal Software Engineering in Azure Networking team. Qualifications
Required/Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years of software development experience with coding in one or more programming languages such as C#, C, C++, GoLang and Rust
- OR equivalent experience.
- Proficiency in designing network solutions, distributed systems, and large scale cloud services.
- 2+ years experience in collaboration with cross-functional teams across geographies.
Other Qualifications:
- Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
- Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Additional or Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of container platforms and technologies (Kubernetes)
- Experience with Azure Services like Azure Storage, Azure KeyVault and Azure AD.
- Knowledge of routing and networking protocols such as IP, IPv6, TCP/UDP, TLS, BGP, BFD.
- Knowledge of application level protocols such as HTTP, HTTPS, QUIC.
- Experience in debugging packet loss and network throughput for large and complex network.
- Ability to work effectively both autonomously and in team.
Software Engineering IC6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $163,000 - $296,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $220,800 - $331,200 per year.

Responsibilities
- Oversees partnership with appropriate stakeholders (e.g., project manager, technical lead) to determine user requirements within and across teams for multiple solutions or product lines.
- Oversees teams and provides technical leadership for identification of dependencies and the development of design documents for a product, application, service, or platform.
- Builds, optimizes, debugs, refactors, and reuses code to improve performance and maintainability, effectiveness, and return on investment (ROI).
- Leads the resolution of complex site incidents and oversees for Designated Responsible Individuals (DRI) and directs the work of other engineers across product lines.
- Keeps informed of and communicates new standards to ensure that the product development and scaling to customer requirements and applies best practices for meeting scaling needs and performance expectations and holds accountability for products that do not meet expectations.
