Overview

Microsoft Trust, Safety and Intelligence team is responsible for the moderation and understanding of news feed to delight our end-user by offering them trustworthy and safe contents. We design and develop text and vision machine learning models that run daily on thousands of web contents of different types (articles, videos and slideshows) and user-generated comments to protect millions of users from harmful contents. We are looking for a highly motivated and talented applied scientist to join our science team.

As an Applied Scientist of our team, you will leverage your experience in deep learning and machine learning in general to develop and apply large language models and large vision models for natural language understanding and image understanding. You will contribute to the development of the next generation of MSN that is adopting the latest generative AI techniques.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 2+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)
    • OR Master's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 1+ year(s) related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)
    • OR Doctorate in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 1+ year(s) experience coding and debugging with deep understanding of ML\AI algorithms and data science problems.
  • 1+ year(s) experience with ML techniques such as deep learning, predictive modelling, time series data analysis.

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering,
    • OR related field AND 5+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)
    • OR Master's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering,
    • OR related field AND 3+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)
    • OR Doctorate in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 1+ year(s) experience creating publications (e.g., patents, peer-reviewed academic papers).

Responsibilities

  • You will gain expertise in one or more subareas of research and understand applicable research techniques. You’ll also gain deep knowledge of a service, platform, or domain, and become familiar with the latest industry trends and applied technologies.
  • You will apply strategies provided by senior team members and incorporate state-of-the-art research. You’ll also develop an understanding of methods used in the community and gain expertise in a deeply specialized area.
  • As you reinforce a positive environment by applying best practices, you will also support mentorship and assist with the onboarding of entry-level team members. Additionally, you will maintain ties with an external network of peers and identify prospective talent, when asked.
  • You will document work in progress and share findings to promote innovation within a group. You’ll also learn and follow ethics and privacy policies while executing research processes or collecting information.
