In the role of Senior Software Engineer for Azure Compute Node Services, you will help design, develop, and operate the compute platform that powers virtual machines, containers, and bare metal servers. Our team is focused on evolving the Azure host, integrating hardware acceleration, and implementing strategies to enhance performance, reliability, and efficiency. You will work closely with engineers across Azure to deliver scalable features that support diverse workloads with high availability.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Rust, Java, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 1+ year(s) experience with Rust programming.

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
    • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science
    • OR related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, OR Python
    • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 1+ year(s) experience with analysis and troubleshooting of large-scale distributed systems.
  • 1+ year(s) experience developing, debugging, and maintaining code on Linux systems.
  • 1+ year(s) experience with Rust programming.

Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $158,400 - $258,000 per year.

Responsibilities

  • Engage in all phases of the software development lifecycle, including design, coding, testing, deployment, and maintenance.
  • Work with appropriate stakeholders to conceptualize high-level design for scenarios and features.
  • Partner with stake holders (e.g. Project Managers) to come up with project execution plans.
  • Lead in identifying dependencies, bringing clarity to complex problems and propose efficient solutions.
  • Collaborate with various stake holders to ensure seamless operation and scalability of our services and troubleshoot and resolve complex software issues.
  • Act as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) in monitoring our services for degradation, downtime, or interruptions, and recommend actions to restore services by following the DRI playbook.
    Participate in code reviews, maintain technical documentation, and adhere to best practices in software development.
  • Continuously learn and adapt to new technologies and frameworks, contributing to the evolution of our infrastructure.
