Overview

Azure Core is at the forefront of innovation for Microsoft’s Cloud and Artificial Intelligence (AI) mission. We are responsible for designing and building the foundational primitives, platforms and services that power the current and next generation of applications including Generative AI. Our work expands the Azure Cloud (AI Regions, Region Expansions, New Clouds), enables the safe, scalable, and efficient evolution of Azur and improves the foundations of platform quality for every developer and enterprise.


We are seeking a technical and visionary Principal Technical PM Manager with a bias for action to expand the Azure Cloud and meet the needs of customers seeking data residency and sovereignty. You will lead a team of technical program managers working with engineering leaders across Microsoft to drive innovation in this area. This role is central to Microsoft’s success – owning the strategy and delivery of systems to improve engineering velocity while managing a company-wide initiative to deliver clouds to customers where and when they are needed.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 8+ years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 6+ years of experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.
  • 8+ years working on Cloud platforms (Azure/AWS/GCP) and building large scale distributed systems.
  • 3+ years people management experience.

Other Qualifications:

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 15+ years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 6+ years of people management experience.
  • 10+ years of experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.
  • 6+ years of experience working on cloud networking, security and identity platforms.

Technical Program Management M6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $163,000 - $296,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $220,800 - $331,200 per year.

Responsibilities

  • Secures executive support for the company-wide initiatives needed to succeed, maintaining the highest levels of trust and integrity with all stakeholders.
  • Provides strategic help to cross-divisional teams as they work with Software and Hardware Engineering to design technical solutions, and also oversee teams as they identify risks and propose data-based mitigations.
  • Drives cross-divisional teams to define success criteria and provide strategic knowledge to help them understand return on investment, and oversee team collaboration and ensure alignment on program management and release.
  • Oversees cross-divisional teams as they deliver on feature roadmap, track project schedules, develop staging and implementation, and hold teams accountable for leading governance programs.
  • Oversees teams driving continuous improvements by using industry expertise to teach them to validate use cases and help them partner with other departments to collect performance metrics, and you’ll also oversee teams that own customer support and ensure cross-divisional participation in direct customer engagements.
  • Innovate program management practices across Azure services and champion the adoption of generative AI tools to streamline planning, feedback-loop synthesis, and engineering system efficiency, setting a new standard for scalable, data-informed decision-making across the platform.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends in cloud infrastructure and advancements in program management, ensuring our approach and practices remain cutting-edge.
