Overview

Do you want to advise Microsoft's Windows + Devices business unit by working with a team that embraces a growth mindset, inclusivity, and supports you in doing your best work each day? We are looking for a motivated lawyer to join our Experiences and Devices legal team.

As the Corporate Counsel in this role will provide legal advice to business leadership and the engineering teams on a range of legal, policy, business, and strategic issues related to Surface, Xbox, and Windows. You will also be responsible for providing legal guidance, directly and in collaboration with other attorneys and legal professionals, regarding warranty support, product safety, and product liability issues across hardware, operating systems, and AI. This is an exciting opportunity where you can grow your skills across a wide range of different areas, both in substantive legal and policy areas such as warranty programs, product safety, hardware engineering, commercial transactions, and other traditional in-house counsel capacities, such as driving internal alignment among different stakeholders.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor Degree or international equivalent degree AND 1+ year(s) experience as a practicing attorney
    • OR equivalent experience
  • Active license to practice law in a jurisdiction and capable of meeting admission requirements in relevant jurisdiction

Additional or Preferred Qualifications

  • 1+ year's experience supporting engineering and business teams in hardware development and warranty support
  • Demonstrated experience working on ambiguous and complex business problems.
  • Proven track record of learning new technology and relevant new regulations.
  • Experience drafting and negotiating agreements.

Legal Counsel IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $105,800 - $204,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $136,200 - $223,300 per year.

Responsibilities

  • Support and advise business and engineering teams regarding regulatory, contractual, policy and strategic decisions arising from warranty support programs.
  • Support development, release, and post-sales support of Microsoft hardware, including Surface tablets and laptops.
  • Support deployment of AI features and workloads on hardware devices.
  • Provide legal counsel to implement Microsoft's product safety programs across product development.
