Microsoft Threat Intelligence Center (MSTIC) has unique optics into end-to-end cyber-attacks and how different stages manifest across our telemetry. By partnering across the company, we build proof-of-concept solutions that showcase new detection capabilities, through novel correlation and analysis methodologies. Our work contributes directly to the customer-facing security tools provided by Microsoft, achieving large scale global impact.

As part of MSTIC’s DS&AI team, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with a diverse, global team of security experts from across the CISO org as part of one of the largest security research organisations in the world, benefiting from Microsoft’s unique view of the threat landscape. Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Curiosity and passion for problem solving; ability to learn new skills quickly and apply them to real-world problems
  • Strong quantitative skills (e.g., as demonstrated by your degree course in a quantitative field such as Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering, etc.)
  • Familiarity with some machine learning and statistical techniques
  • Some programming experience (ideally in Python, or in other languages with strong data science ecosystems such as R, C#, Scala, Java, etc.)
  • Fluency in English

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience using common data science tools or packages (e.g., NumPy, scikit-learn, PyTorch, TensorFlow, etc.)
  • Practical experience in researching and/or applying GenAI, machine learning and/or statistical methods (e.g., as part of a university project or dissertation)

Responsibilities

We are looking for an innovative Security Applied AI/ML Research intern to join the MSTIC DS&AI team, working to apply machine learning & AI techniques to help our analysts and threat hunters detect and track threats in our telemetry sources, increasing their effectiveness. You will create algorithms that will be applicable to multiple services and data sources and apply them at cloud scale. Your work will combine data science & AI, security research and software engineering to help protect Microsoft and its customers.

  • Work with our data scientists and threat hunters and analysts to research and deliver end-to-end solutions.
  • Combine data science and security research to develop innovative AI and machine learning approaches for tracking and hunting cyber threat actors.
  • Create algorithms that can be consumed by multiple services and operate over data at cloud scale.
