Overview

The Microsoft AI Monetization team plays a pivotal role in shaping how Microsoft generates value from its AI innovations, particularly through products like Copilot, Bing, Edge, and Microsoft Advertising. This cross-functional organization is responsible for driving new monetization opportunities, business growth, and pioneering bold bets in AI-driven experiences.


Join our high-impact Program Management (PGMT) team and help lead execution across Microsoft AI Monetization. Our PGMT’s are embedded in the heart of strategic initiatives that power the ai platform shift, create new canvases for monetization growth, enable publisher platforms, real-time systems, and state of the art personalized models. We operate at the intersection of engineering, product, design, and business—ensuring that complex programs are delivered with a customer focus, strategic clarity, and measurable impact.

As a Principal Technical Program Manager, you will play a crucial role to help manage the core infrastructure and services behind AI monetization at scale. In this role, you will collaborate and drive high-impact, data-intensive projects with deep AI/ML integration, leading critical cross-org initiatives from problem statement to production launch. You’ll apply data driven and customer-oriented focus to understand the needs and help drive realistic customer expectations and define business, customer, and solution strategy goals, and partner to identify and explore new opportunities. Starting January 26, 2026, Microsoft AI (MAI) employees who live within a 50-mile commute of a designated Microsoft office in the U.S. or 25-mile commute of a non-U.S., country-specific location are expected to work from the office at least four days per week. This expectation is subject to local law and may vary by jurisdiction.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 6+ years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years of experience in advertising / monetization space in a technical capacity.
  • 3+ years of experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 12+ years experience engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years of experience in advertising/monetization system design / algorithms / modeling.
  • Experience with ad serving, programmatic auctions, or ranking systems with solid business understanding of monetization KPIs (CTR, ROI, spend efficiency, quality scores) and familiarity with privacy, compliance, and responsible AI in consumer-scale products.
  • Hands-on experience reviewing technical designs, specs, or systems diagrams.

Technical Program Management IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $139,900 - $274,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $188,000 - $304,200 per year.

Responsibilities

  • Technical Program Leadership & Strategic Execution.
    • Own and drive complex technical programs across the core phases of initiation, planning, execution, monitoring & control, closure, and change management.
    • Translate business and product vision into actionable plans, driving execution and accountability in partnership with engineering, product, UX, data science, and business teams.
    • Lead agile execution across sprints, backlogs, and milestones with a result-oriented style in a global, distributed teams setting.
  • Strategic Leadership & Risk Management.
    • Define program vision, strategy, and execution plans in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
    • Identify, evaluate, and mitigate project and program risks, providing data-driven recommendations to stakeholders.
    • Manage dependencies and ensure timely delivery of program milestones.
  • Cross Functional Collaboration.
    • Collaborate across areas to gather and prioritize requirements, scope engagements, and align resources with commitments.
    • Partner and influence engineering, product, UX, data science, and business teams to deliver complex technical solutions.
  • Success Metrics & Implementation Leadership.
    • Define and monitor key metrics (e.g., latency, throughput, quality scores, revenue impact) in partnership with cross-functional teams to guide program priorities and evaluate success.
    • Develop success criteria and build relationships to drive implementation across highly complex, cross-functional initiatives.
  • Executive Communication & Reporting.
    • Provide program updates and risks to leadership, translating complex issues into actionable, business-aligned narratives.
    • Establish clear visibility into progress, priorities, and KPIs, ensuring Leadership Team and partner teams are informed and aligned.
    • Communicate effectively across technical and executive audiences.
  • Operations Excellence.
    • Influence partners across all stages of cycle planning to support development of workstreams, missions, and milestones to track towards goals.
    • Acts as both a thought leader and hands-on practitioner to drive efficiency, scalability, and consistency across processes, capabilities, and services, ensuring operational excellence in program delivery.
