Overview

The Azure Edge Networking Team is growing and we’re looking for a creative results-driven Data Scientist who can help build the next generation of Internet Traffic Control system by combining Data Science principles with software development in the networking domain. We’re passionate about building scalable solutions that deliver customers’ traffic with minimum loss and latency.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Msc/PHD Degree in Operations Research, Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Computer Science, or related field.
  • You must be legally authorised to work in Ireland to be eligible for this role.
      • (Legally authorised = Has citizenship or has been granted a valid visa or work permit)
  • Experience formulating a roadmap of project activity that leads to measurable improvement in business performance metrics over time.
  • Proficiency in SQL and working with large datasets.

Other Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in Python, Matlab or R, with experience in data science libraries (e.g., pandas, scikit-learn, PyTorch, NumPy).
  • Expertise in OR tools such as Gurobi, CPLEX, PuLP, or similar solvers.
  • Experience developing and deploying optimization or simulation models in production environments.
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
    • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Additional or Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with dashboarding and data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).
  • Knowledge of business domains such as networking.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deploy advanced analytical models using machine learning, statistical analysis, and optimization techniques.
  • Apply operations research methodologies (e.g., linear programming, integer programming, simulation, queuing theory) to solve real-world business challenges.
  • Design and implement decision-support systems that drive operational efficiencies in areas such as supply chain, logistics, workforce planning, pricing, or resource allocation.
  • Translate complex analytical results into clear, actionable insights and communicate findings to stakeholders and leadership.
  • Collaborate with data engineers, product managers, and business stakeholders to gather requirements, validate data, and implement solutions.
  • Evaluate and integrate external data sources where relevant to enhance model accuracy.
  • Stay current with emerging trends in data science, OR, and analytics tools and technologies.
