Hyper-V virtualization technology is a key component of Microsoft’s cloud strategy and is at the core of both Microsoft Azure and the Windows operating system. Our team develops features deployed across millions of machines, from Azure servers powering the Microsoft cloud to devices used by developers and enterprises. We collaborate with teams across Microsoft, hardware partners, and the open-source community to deliver secure and reliable virtualization solutions.

The Hyper-V team is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to help deliver the next generation of our secure virtualization platform. In this role, you will design and implement features that enhance security and performance at scale. The position offers opportunities to learn new technologies, work on complex systems, and collaborate within a dynamic team environment.

This role provides exposure to large-scale distributed systems and virtualization technologies, enabling you to make a meaningful impact on Microsoft’s cloud infrastructure while advancing your technical expertise.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
  • OR equivalent experience.
• 3+ years experience in Systems Programming and architectural skills backed up by implementation experience
• 3+ years experience Robust coding, debugging, testing, and problem-solving skills
  

Other Requirements

• Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science
  • OR related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript,
  • OR Python
  • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
  • OR equivalent experience.
• 3+ years experience working on a large codebase and willing to take on a wide variety of challenges. Results across multiple ship cycles and understanding of systems software, security architectures and virtualization

• Design and implementation of features that further strengthen the security of Hyper-V’s virtualization platform and that increase the trust that our customers have in our Cloud and Windows Server offerings.
• Specific areas include updating the use of encryption across the virtualization platform and leveraging modern validation technologies to ensure highly robust implementations.
