We are seeking a strategic, execution‑oriented Director of Business Development to drive new distribution strategies and lead strategic initiatives that scale Microsoft Copilot across partner ecosystems. This role focuses on building high‑impact partnerships with consumer apps, publishers, platforms, and web properties to increase engagement, drive monetization, and create clear value back to Copilot. This role requires strong cross‑functional leadership to drive alignment Product Management, Engineering, Legal, Marketing, Platform, and Sales to deliver partnerships at pace and scale.
The ideal candidate demonstrates a proven ability to define and execute multi‑year, end‑to‑end partnership strategies across diverse ecosystems, while navigating ambiguity, influencing cross‑organizational stakeholders, and applying strong strategic thinking to emerging markets and evolving business models. Success in this role requires excellence in cross‑organization leadership across global teams, coupled with outstanding written and executive communication skills honed through partner negotiations and executive briefings.
The Business Development team at Microsoft is responsible for accelerating the company’s growth through the identification and execution of inorganic growth strategies including complex strategic partners, investments, and acquisitions.

Responsibilities
- Create Strategy & Vision - Define and evolve distribution strategies for consumer Copilot, prioritizing verticals, partner archetypes, product offerings, and pipeline development.
- Define Commercial Models - Design partner frameworks and incentives that balance partner value with Microsoft’s strategic objectives.
- Drive Partnership Development - Identify, qualify, and secure strategic partnerships with large partners aligned to approved strategies.
- Manage Strategic Partners - Lead end‑to‑end partner engagement from deal closure through launch, quarterly business reviews, and ongoing continuous improvements.
- Market & Competitive Insights - Leverage partner feedback and public market intelligence to sharpen Copilot’s differentiation, inform strategic positioning, and guide future distribution initiatives.

- Bachelor's Degree in Business, Liberal Arts, Sciences, or related field AND 10+ years relevant work experience (e.g., investment banking, consulting, finance, marketing, corporate strategy, sales, venture capital, legal, business development, product management, project management, software development, or related field)
- OR equivalent experience.

Business Development IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $130,900 - $251,900 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $165,600 - $272,300 per year.
