Overview

Microsoft’s Quantum research group is exploring ways to build a full-stack quantum computer and has become the world’s center of expertise on topological quantum computing. The research effort includes theoretical and experimental teams around the world, who have been designing and optimizing all aspects of the quantum computer, from topological qubit designs to cryogenic control and readout circuitry, to runtime software and quantum language compilers. At Microsoft Quantum, we aim to empower science and scientists to solve the world’s biggest problems by realizing advanced computing platforms at the intersection of high-performance computing, artificial intelligence, and quantum information technology. Microsoft Quantum will change the world of computing and help solve some of humankind’s currently unsolvable problems. For more information about our team, visit https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/quantum.

Microsoft’s Quantum Systems organization is building the foundation for the world’s first scalable quantum computer — a mission that demands precision, creativity, and seamless collaboration across engineering, research, and operations. We’re seeking a Quantum Systems Operations Coordinator to serve as the organizational backbone of this effort — driving the planning, coordination, and execution that keep our teams focused and our operations efficient. This person is a natural organizer and problem solver: someone who sees gaps, connects dots, and quietly ensures that complex initiatives move forward.

Microsoft’s mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. As employees we come together with a growth mindset, innovate to empower others, and collaborate to realize our shared goals. Each day we build on our values of respect, integrity, and accountability to create a culture of inclusion where everyone can thrive at work and beyond.

  • Own day-to-day budget forecasting and tracking for the systems organization with industry standard tools
  • Act as the primary point of contact for vendor coordination for the systems organization – from onboarding to contract renewals
  • Support the Global Cryolab Support Engineer, facilities, and technical teams by helping manage logistics around system lab operations, maintenance, and procurement
  • Manage access, licenses, and renewals for key simulation tools or cloud services
  • Build and maintain a centralized knowledge repository for processes, decisions, and SOPs

    • OR Master's Degree in Physics, Engineering, or related field AND 6+ years experience in industry or in a research and development environment
    • OR Doctorate in Physics, Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years experience in industry or in a research and development environment

As a condition of employment, the successful candidate will be required to provide either proof of their country of citizenship or proof of their U.S. permanent residency or other protected status (e.g., under 8 U.S.C. § 1324b(a)(3)) for assessment of eligibility to access the export-controlled information. To meet this legal requirement, and as a condition of employment, the successful candidate’s citizenship will be verified with a valid passport. Lawful permanent residents, refugees, and asylees may verify status using other documents, where applicable.
  • Ability to work in an “AI-first” environment using modern AI tools to accelerate discovery through hardware development.
  • Familiarity with designing and building AI agents/copilots that assist with experiment setup, log triage, measurement report generation, protocol templating, and knowledge retrieval (e.g. instrument manuals, design docs).
