As a Principal Technical Program Management (TPM) Manager, you will lead and develop a team of Technical Program Managers, driving vision, strategy, and execution for complex, cross-functional initiatives that integrate AI capabilities into Microsoft’s global finance ecosystem. You will partner with senior finance and engineering leaders to define priorities, align roadmaps, and deliver intelligent solutions that enable predictive insights and automated decision-making for the Microsoft Customer and Partner Solutions (MCAPS) Finance team. This role requires strong technical program management expertise, deep business and financial acumen, and the ability to influence across organizations to ensure alignment on strategy, tradeoffs, and delivery. You will own strategic planning for multiple feature areas, orchestrate integration efforts across teams, and establish governance frameworks to ensure delivery excellence and risk management. Beyond execution, you will foster a culture of accountability and growth within your team, mentor TPMs, and champion AI innovation to solve tough problems like balancing customer needs with engineering sustainability.

Responsibilities

As a Principal TPM Manager, you will:

  • Lead and Develop Talent: Build, mentor, and grow a high-performing team of Technical Program Managers. Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous learning, with a strong emphasis on AI-driven solutions and modern engineering practices.
  • Drive Strategic Planning and AI Integration: Own the vision and roadmap for multiple feature areas, embedding AI and machine learning capabilities into analytics platforms and workflows. Define program goals that leverage predictive insights, intelligent automation, and advanced data models to transform finance operations.
  • Influence and Align Across Organizations: Partner with senior leaders in Finance, Engineering, and Business to shape priorities and secure resources for high-impact initiatives. Drive alignment on strategy and tradeoffs, ensuring AI adoption accelerates business outcomes while maintaining system sustainability.
  • Ensure Delivery Excellence and Governance: Establish robust processes for execution, risk management, and quality assurance across complex, cross-functional programs. Use telemetry and AI-powered analytics to proactively identify risks, optimize performance, and improve customer satisfaction.
  • Champion AI Innovation and Customer-Centric Design: Evangelize AI capabilities internally and externally, educating stakeholders on how intelligent solutions enhance decision-making and operational efficiency. Engage directly with customers and business partners to gather feedback and refine AI-driven experiences.
  • Orchestrate End-to-End Delivery: Oversee integrated schedules, dependencies, and milestones for large-scale programs. Ensure cohesive, connected user scenarios powered by AI insights, and make course corrections when projects deviate from goals or timelines.


Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 6+ years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development OR equivalent experience.
  • 1+ years people management experience.
  • 3+ years of experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.
  • Proven ability to define strategy, manage roadmaps, and deliver large-scale programs with measurable impact.
  • Strong understanding of software development lifecycle, cloud technologies, and data platforms.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with experience influencing senior leaders.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 12+ years experience engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development OR equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years people management experience.
  • 8+ years of experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.
  • 1+ year(s) of experience reading and/or writing code (e.g., sample documentation, product demos).
  • Experience integrating AI/ML solutions into enterprise-scale platforms or workflows.
  • Deep knowledge of analytics, data engineering, and business intelligence technologies (e.g., Azure, Power BI, Synapse).
  • Demonstrated success in driving organizational change and adoption of emerging technologies.
  • Expertise in risk management, governance frameworks, and delivery excellence for global programs.
  • Ability to foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within technical teams.


Technical Program Management M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $139,900 - $274,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $188,000 - $304,200 per year.
