The Surface Services and Platform Experiences team builds the web services and applications that power Surface’s commercial business, a critical and rapidly growing segment that drives a significant portion of overall Surface success. Here, your work directly influences how global organizations experience the innovation and reliability that define Surface.


As a Software Engineer II on the Surface Services and Platform Experiences team, you’ll design, build, and deliver modern, cloud-powered solutions that support Surface’s commercial customers. You’ll operate in an environment where you can establish ownership and collaborate effectively across multiple teams and organizations to drive clarity and results.


This opportunity will allow you to gain insight into how Surface runs its commercial business; build and expand your technical experience with Azure, developing scalable, secure, and high-performance services; and play a role in architecting new systems and services from the ground up.

Responsibilities
  • Work across the full stack – from Azure infrastructure and cloud services to web APIs built with microservice architectures, to modern frontend frameworks.
  • Design, implement, and maintain scalable and secure services using Azure technologies such as Azure Functions, Azure Kubernetes Service, Storage, and Cosmos DB.
  • Develop and automate release pipelines using Azure DevOps to streamline builds, testing, and deployments across environments.
  • Collaborate closely with PM, SRE, and validation teams to write detailed development and design documentation that aligns technical solutions with customer and business needs.
  • Champion security-first and privacy-by-design principles, ensuring enterprise-grade compliance and data protection across all systems.
  • Contribute to architecture and technical strategy, helping define and implement modernization efforts that replace legacy systems with new, scalable solutions.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
      • OR Master’s Degree in computer science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
      • OR equivalent experience.
  • 1+ year of experience with design and tooling


Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $100,600 - $199,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $131,400 - $215,400 per year.
