We are looking for a Principal Software Engineer to technically lead & contribute to design, build, test, deploy and operate features in production.
Responsibilities
Design, implement, validate, and ship artificial intelligence (AI) powered features end-to-end for Microsoft Teams across desktop, web, and mobile clients
Collaborate with Program Managers, Designers, and Researchers to define product requirements, timelines, and measurable success criteria
Maintain and improve system performance, reliability, latency, and scalability of AI-powered features in production
Participate in code reviews, debugging, telemetry reviews, and continuous delivery processes
Champion a culture of scientific rigor, ethical AI, and innovation across the team
Communicate scientific findings and technical designs clearly to product and engineering leadership
Drive exploration of hybrid AI experiences (cloud + edge + large language model (LLM)) for responsiveness, privacy, and enterprise value
Experience prompt tuning, fine tuning and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) system development
Experience with Evaluation, A/B testing, Experimentation
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR equivalent experience.
- Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 12+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 15+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR equivalent experience.
- Experience on developing AI Applications
- Conduct applied science experiments, create and validate metrics, work with machine learning (ML) pipeline and modeling algorithm in the area of Large Language Models, Natural Language Processing, Information Retrieval, and Machine Learning
- Develop and deploy conversational and language understanding models at scale.
- Following and advancing best practices for Responsible AI and Privacy Preserving Machine Learning.
- Experience with commercial product development with focus on user experiences
Software Engineering IC6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $163,000 - $296,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $220,800 - $331,200 per year.
