Principal Applied Scientist

Edge Machine learning team is the core AI team behind Edge browser. We are looking for passionate ML Software engineers, Applied Scientists to help us on our mission to build the most intelligent web browser ever by developing SOTA machine learning, deep learning technologies to understand various web content as well user behaviors.
As a team, we have deep investments in a variety of core AI areas to develop intelligent user experiences. Some of our works have been published on top conferences like ACL, EMNLP, SIGKDD, AAAI, WSDM, COLING, WWW, NIPS, ICASSP, etc. We also collaborate regularly with Microsoft Research Asia and partner production teams to explore cutting-edge NLP technology to deliver both production and research impact.

Starting January 26, 2026, Microsoft AI (MAI) employees who live within a 50- mile commute of a designated Microsoft office in the U.S. or 25-mile commute of a non-U.S., country-specific location are expected to work from the office at least four days per week. Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 6+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)
- OR Master's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 4+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)
- OR Doctorate in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)
- OR equivalent experience.
- Experiences in applying deep learning techniques and drive E2E AI product development (LLM, Search, NLP, etc).
- Excellent coding experience in Python, C++, C#, C or Java.
- Familiar with common machine learning, deep learning frameworks like Pytorch/Tensorflow.
- Passionate and self-motivated, Ability to effectively collaborate and ship production features in a multi-project, fast-paced team environment.
- (For manager) awesome project / people management experiences.
- Good communication skills, both verbal and written.

- OR equivalent experience.
