Overview

Are you passionate about making AI systems safe, secure, and trustworthy? Microsoft’s Responsible AI (RAI) team in CoreAI seeks an entrepreneurial, hands-on Responsible AI Assessment Lead to partner across functions and shape responsible AI systems and generative AI products. Assessment Leads evaluate generative AI release risks and collaborate with product, policy, research, and engineering teams to design and implement requirements and best practices.

The ideal candidate is a proven sociotechnical translator who understands regulatory and customer needs alongside engineering realities to bridge perspectives. This role requires a deep understanding of generative AI use cases, responsible AI principles, and product and program management to uphold commitments while enabling innovation. A solid technical foundation is essential to grasp measurement and mitigation techniques.

A successful candidate will rigorously understand problems and collectively solve them, and apply pattern-matching, a product mindset, and user-centric perspectives to improve Microsoft’s responsible AI ecosystem and shape next-generation AI products.

Responsibilities
  • Assess product releases for responsible AI risks and mitigation effectiveness while building working relationships and trust.
  • Serve as a domain expert in generative AI technology, customer use cases, and responsible AI practices.
  • Identify patterns and gaps across use cases, assessments, and requirements, helping others define new solutions and collaborating with engineering and policy partners to clarify requirements and close gaps.
  • Help drive continuous improvements in process efficiency and effectiveness at scale, including scaling your knowledge of generative AI technology and use cases, and translating policies into responsible AI practices.


Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 2+ years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 1+ year(s) of experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in Responsible AI and/or AI safety
  • Experience with machine learning / AI
  • Bachelor's Degree AND 6+ years of experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development OR equivalent experience
  • 4+ years of experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects
  • Experience with Generative AI
  • 1+ year(s) of experience reading and/or writing code (e.g., sample documentation, product demos)
  • Experience using AI tools


Technical Program Management IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $100,600 - $199,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $131,400 - $215,400 per year.
