The Capacity Supply Chain and Provisioning (CSCP) group is an exciting and fast evolving group within Microsoft whose vision is to empower customers to achieve more by delivering cloud capacity differentiated at scale. The organization is responsible for planning, delivery, and provision of all data centers globally powering Microsoft cloud properties. CSCP supports over 200 online businesses including Bing, O365, OneDrive, Xbox, and Windows Azure branded services.
Cloud structural sourcing and Supply Chain (CS3) organization within CSCP manages sourcing and supply of IT hardware for data centers. Well-defined and executed sourcing and supply chain management ensures reliable on-time performance, optimized cost, prevents urgent and unplanned investments, and provides accurate and timely information across the supply base and internally across the infrastructure organization. Our focus is on smart growth, high efficiency, and delivering a trusted experience to customers and partners worldwide. We are looking for a passionate, high energy, technical supply chain professional to lead and execute an early engagement strategy focused on EE components and overall supply chain architecture to ensure a scalable, TCO optimized, and sustainable solution of all our cloud hardware solutions across our commercial cloud and AI space.
The role of EE sourcing lead will focus on key areas:
Building strategic relationships at the Director+ level across key partners in engineering, program management, quality, manufacturing, materials readiness in teams across the organization.
Parter with our ODM & Category sourcing and Taiwan sustaining team to establish a sourcing strategy for all our EE areas – EE components, PCBs, overall system architecture for our mainstream products.
Partner closely with Legal and Contracts Management leadership to protect our key business terms and legal position.
Ensure the team is consistently driving a fair and cross-functional supplier selection process for all new programs awarded in a timely manner.
Lead an early engagement sourcing strategy in partnership with our engineering architecture teams and bring a SC NUDDS assessment to our concept approval forum.
Provide thought leadership and drive strategic initiatives with internal stakeholders and suppliers to support cloud supply chain overall objectives and strategies.
Responsibilities
- Sourcing management
- Engage with cross- functional leadership including product design, quality, and business teams to determine best design solution and supply base to deliver that solution at optimal SC, COS, and cost.
- establish a cross functional supplier selection process to verify appropriate supplier is chose with appropriate capabilities for the given product while ensuring all potential suppliers meet the business, technical, and financial requirements of the program.
- Establish contracting activities with Legal and contracts management team and ensure contract reflect appropriate business terms, IP protection.
- Cost and operations management
- Ensure a multi-sourcing strategy to mitigate risk and drive appropriate competition in the space.
- Lead the team to Identify cost optimization opportunities and drive suppliers for cost competitiveness with cost modeling/ sourcing tools.
- Build a predictive gen on gen solution taking into account optimization from TCO, SC, and Sustainability.
- Manage all these activities through the NPI (New Product Introduction) development builds until mature enough to transition to sustaining sourcing team.
- Manage supplier performance and compliance
- Develop and enable new suppliers.
- Ensure supplier compliance with MSFT requirements for security, social responsibility, payment terms.
- Conduct business review discussions.
- Ensure supplier deliver corrective actions on time from business review / audits.
- Analyze any new supplier requests from engineering and vet out need and how this would tie into our overall sourcing strategy.
Qualifications
Required/Minimum Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Materials Science, or related field AND 6+ years experience in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, engineering, operations, or relevant sales-related roles OR Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Materials Science, or related field AND 8+ years experience in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, engineering, operations, or relevant sales-related roles OR equivalent experience.
Other Requirements:
- Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications:
- BS or higher degree in any engineering field with MS or PhD a preference.
- 5+ years of experience in procurement, supply chain, operations areas.
- 5+ years of experience doing direct engineering work driving problem solving solution.
- Cloud / high tech supply chain experience is a plus.
- Leadership experience with direct management is a plus.
- Extensive knowledge of hardware sourcing and supply chain.
- Experience in leading a team either directly or indirectly in a sourcing/supply chain organization.
- Demonstrated track record leading a team in supplier negotiation and management.
- Proven capabilities in operating in a growing, fast-paced, results-oriented environment.
- Distinctive problem-solving leadership and analytical thinking for continuous improvement.
- Strong influencing skills and ability to build lasting relationships across multiple layers in the organization.
- Excellent communication and synthesizing skills of both written and verbal.

Sourcing Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $139,900 - $274,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $188,000 - $304,200 per year.
