As a Senior Software Engineer, you will work on Windows Drivers (kernel and user-mode) and Windows Services for Surface Devices. You will be responsible for partnering closely with electrical engineers, system engineers, firmware engineers and architects for feature definition and implementation, delivering product designs that are optimized for high volume consumer products. You will be responsible for executing on a cutting-edge roadmap partnering closely with system architects, IHVs, and Windows OS teams. You will have the opportunity help the Surface organization to meet the challenges of creating new and innovative experiences and delivering devices that people love and trust.

Responsibilities
- Windows Device Drivers & Service Software: Crafting the core elements that drive our Surface Devices.
- Libraries & Telemetry Services: Building the tools that provide insights and enhance performance.
- Comprehensive Testing: Designing and implementing tools and improvements to streamline development and production debugging.
- Collaborate & Innovate: Working alongside brilliant developers across Microsoft, as well as with leading software and hardware partners and participating in code reviews and provide constructive feedback to peers.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR equivalent experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR equivalent experience.
- 3+ year(s) of experience as a Software Engineer with a solid foundation in system design and development.
- 3+ year(s) experience in design, implementation, debugging and testing of Windows operating system drivers and/or, Windows system software.
- Working experience with kernel debugging and memory dump analysis.
- Experience in reviewing HW schematics.
- Working knowledge of OS primitives: memory management, scheduling, interrupts, threading and ACPI is an added advantage.
- A deep understanding of software lifecycle in a device development environment and the interplay between software and hardware development and schedules. Experience collaborating with internal and external partners.
- Demonstrated experience in driving requirements and translating them into solutions.
Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $158,400 - $258,000 per year.
