Responsibilities
- Designs and codes features and services for SharePoint Online using modern programming languages and service‑oriented architecture.
- Develops durable, testable components and automation that improve reliability, scalability, performance, and security across global environments.
- Implements telemetry, logging, and monitoring to drive data‑informed decisions and continuous improvements in availability and latency.
- Collaborates with partner teams across Azure and Microsoft 365 to integrate services, resolve dependencies, and deliver end‑to‑end scenarios.
- Reviews code and technical designs, follows engineering best practices, and contributes to documentation and knowledge sharing.
- Improves build, deployment, and incident processes (CI/CD, on‑call) and participates in live‑site health, root cause analysis, and prevention.
- Engages with customer and product feedback to refine requirements, reduce risk, and ship high‑quality, inclusive experiences.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline with proven experience coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.
- Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
- Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
- Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field with proven experience coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 1+ year(s) technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.
- Track record of driving projects independently, taking calculated smart risks and executing on them successfully.
- Experience operating in an agile development environment.
- Experience with cloud technologies and/or cloud services a plus.
- Experience with distributed systems and microservices operating at cloud scale (e.g., Azure).
- Experience with data store technologies, capacity/performance optimization, and low‑latency service design.
- Familiarity with authentication/authorization (e.g., OAuth/OpenID Connect, Microsoft Entra ID) and secure service patterns.
- Proficiency with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and observability (metrics, traces, logs).
- Knowledge of networking fundamentals (e.g., HTTP, DNS, load balancing) and resilience patterns.
- Experience with SharePoint Online or adjacent Microsoft 365 services is a plus.
Software Engineering IC2 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $84,200 - $165,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $109,000 - $180,400 per year.
