Microsoft is looking for a highly motivated and energetic candidate with a degree or a degree in development (close to finalizing) in Political Science, International Relations, Law, Digital Policy, or similar and 1- 2 years of internship / work experience, to join the International Government Affairs (IGA) Team Europe North + Netherlands, part of Microsoft’s Corporate, External and Legal Affairs (CELA) team. Responsibilities
As a Government Affairs intern, based in Brussels, you will be part of Microsoft’s International Government Affairs (IGA) Europe North team working closely with the Government Affairs Leads for the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg. You will be part of amplifying the policies and political activities that support the Region’s digital transformation and stability. Your work will contribute to the development of policy and regulatory frameworks that address key challenges and opportunities in the digital age primarily focusing on AI adoption, cybersecurity, sustainability (the twin transition), and digital skills. You will be supporting Microsoft’s efforts in the region to ensure AI is developed and deployed responsibly, fostering collaboration with governments and other stakeholders – both internal and external.
Succeeding in the role as GA intern involves the ability to act with agility and adapt quickly to shifting political and tech agendas, strengthen Microsoft’s network in the Region, and support the development and management of projects across the Region. Over a 12-month period, you will gain unique insights and first-hand experiences in a fast paced and rapidly evolving environment in a company at the forefront of delivering the AI promise.
Key Responsibilities in support of the execution of the CELA priority policy campaigns and initiatives::
Support the development and execution of the regional Government affairs plan aiming at accelerating AI adoption and digital transformation in the Region with a strong focus on enhancing cybersecurity and modernizing the public sector.
Coordination/ Project Management of our cross regional projects
Perform political and regulatory monitoring and analysis, and draft position papers to support Microsoft’s regulatory and policy engagements in the Region. Coordinating and supporting external advocacy work in liaison with Microsoft’s office in Brussels in the transposition process of EU regulation into national law. Help identify and develop new opportunities to advance the way we work through agility, speed, and effectiveness across the region incl. knowledge management and collaboration efforts to excel in adopting AI in our work.
Collaborating with key internal stakeholders from Microsoft’ business teams, NTO’s & NSO’s
Support organization of events, meetings, and round tables with key stakeholders, incl. Industry Associations, Government officials, professional organizations, and NGO’s.
Support external communication efforts through drafting articles, social media posts and blogs
Update and maintain internal IGA digital tools
Support in successfully landing executive visits in the Region, by assisting in drafting briefings, preparing presentations, handling logistics, and attending events.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- A degree or a degree in development (close to finalizing) in Political Science, International Relations, Law, Digital Policy, or a similar field of study AND 1- 3 years of internship / work experience.
- You must be legally authorised to work in Belgium to be eligible for this role. (Legally authorised = has citizenship or has been granted a valid visa or work permit).
- Full professional proficiency in English, French and Dutch (verbal and written)
Preferred Qualifications
• A strong interest in European and international politics and technology.
• Knowledge of European institutions, governance, and networks.
• Experience with CRM tools or other hands-on experience with technology platforms is a significant advantage.
• Project management, planning, organizational, networking and communication skills.
• Ability to work well in a changing environment, and to prioritise competing demands on time, while ensuring deadlines are met. Adaptable team-player with a positive and friendly mindset.
