Microsoft Cloud Operations and Innovation (CO&I) is the team behind the cloud. Within CO&I, the Data Center Engineering (DCE) team is responsible for delivering core datacenter infrastructure for Microsoft’s cloud business. The MS portfolio consists of complex, multi-disciplinary, large scale, multi-year datacenter construction and lease projects. Responsibilities

The Data Center Engineering (DCE) Senior Electrical Engineer will become part of the regional engineering team, responsible for the design development and continuous innovation of electrical system and infrastructure for our Microsoft’s industry-leading data centers in APAC that power the world's largest online services.

We are looking for engineers with hands on electrical design experience and detailed understanding of mission critical electrical systems. This position, as a Subject Matter Expert, will provide key input to other organizations and stakeholders. The successful candidate will be a professional electrical engineer with experience in data center electrical designs delivery. Candidate will manage, review, analyse, and coordinate the delivery of complex data center electrical systems, power distribution systems and backup power systems. This individual will be responsible for managing consultants and partnering equipment vendors, making sure they engineer and design to Microsoft standards. The position requires travel to sites, attend factory witness tests, vendor interaction in the design process, as well as final commissioning of the installed systems.

The Data Center Electrical Engineer will be responsible for the following:

· Design Development: Collaborate with global and regional electrical engineering teams to develop data center electrical designs from Basis of Design (BOD) through Issue for Construction (IFC) for new build projects.

· Project Oversight: Manage electrical system designs throughout all phases—design, equipment procurement, manufacturing, installation, and commissioning—while proactively identifying and resolving technical issues raised by stakeholders (construction, commissioning, operations).

· Design Reviews & Specifications: Lead design reviews and prepare detailed specifications, including sequences of operation for electrical systems aligned with Microsoft’s electrical topology.

· Consultant & Vendor Management: Direct A/E consultants in the design and coordination of electrical systems, EPMS integration, associated controls, and overall electrical distribution for both new builds and retrofits.

· Workgroup Driver: Facilitate electrical workgroups with consulting firms and key Microsoft stakeholders to ensure alignment and timely delivery of project objectives.

· Cross-Functional Collaboration: Interface closely with internal teams, manufacturers, consultants, and contractors to deliver robust electrical solutions tailored to each project.

· Energy Supply Support: Partner with the Energy team to provide power demand, redundancy, and physical diversity requirements for electrical supply applications.

· Site Selection Support: Validate electrical infrastructure footprints and assess power availability risks during site due diligence and test-fit evaluations.

· Innovation Enabler: Contribute to the development of new engineering initiatives and continuous improvement efforts within the regional engineering team.



Qualifications

Qualifications:

· Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent).

· Experience: Minimum of 6 years in consulting engineering or within hyperscale/colocation facilities, with a strong focus on mission-critical electrical system design and data center infrastructure.

· Regulatory Knowledge: Excellent understanding of electrical codes, standards, and utility requirements across the APAC region.

· Technical Expertise:

- Proficient in the design and application of UPS systems, diesel generators, MV & LV switchboards, distribution transformers, PDUs, ATS/STS, harmonic filters, and variable frequency drives.

- Solid foundation in MV and LV electrical systems, including power system modeling, electrical calculations, protection schemes, grounding & bonding, lightning protection, fire detection, power quality, and switching operations.

· Design & Delivery Skills: Ability to take new design concepts from initial exploration through development and deployment/construction.

· Collaboration: Skilled in working across multidisciplinary teams including design, delivery, and operations.

· Personal Attributes:

While not required, we also look for the following Preferred Qualifications:

· Professional Engineer (PE) or Chartered Engineer certification.

· Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering.

· 8+ years of experience specifically in data center or mission-critical facility electrical system design.
