Overview

Microsoft is a company where passionate innovators come to collaborate, envision what can be and take their careers further. This is a world of more possibilities, more innovation, more openness, and the sky is the limit thinking in a cloud-enabled world.

Microsoft’s Azure Data engineering team is leading the transformation of analytics in the world of data with products like databases, data integration, big data analytics, messaging & real-time analytics, and business intelligence. The products our portfolio include Microsoft Fabric, Azure SQL DB, Azure Cosmos DB, Azure PostgreSQL, Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Service Bus, Azure Event Grid, and Power BI. Our mission is to build the data platform for the age of AI, powering a new class of data-first applications and driving a data culture.

Within Azure Data, the databases team builds and maintains Microsoft's operational Database systems. We store and manage data in a structured way to enable multitude of applications across various industries. We are on a journey to enable developer friendly, mission-critical, AI enabled operational Databases across relational, non-relational and OSS offerings.

The Security and Compliance team within Azure Databases is on a mission to offer the most secure database services on the planet – from on-premises data centers to the cloud. Security, compliance, and data privacy are top concerns for our customers and the Security & Compliance team plays a pivotal role in drawing new businesses to our platform by being “built on trust”.

We are hiring a Software Engineer II who is proficient in all layers of the technology stack (from infrastructure to front-end) to help drive security and compliance improvements across our fleet of products. As a Software Engineer II on the Azure Databases Infrastructure Security Team, you will work at the intersection between engineering and security to identify and apply shift-left mitigations to improve our infrastructure and application security posture. In this role, you will help to improve security outcomes through coding, architectural changes, and evangelization of security best practices.

We do not just value differences or different perspectives. We seek them out and invite them in so we can tap into the collective power of everyone in the company. As a result, our customers are better served.

At Microsoft, our mission is to empower every person and organization on the planet to achieve more. We foster a culture of inclusion, growth, and innovation, built on values of respect, integrity, and accountability. If you're passionate about driving meaningful impact, solving complex problems, and contributing to a growing organization, we would love to hear from you.

Responsibilities
  • Software engineering for scale – The Azure Databases Infrastructure Security Team is an engineering team and will be building at-scale solutions for Azure Databases. Engineers need a deep understanding of the broader system to provide solutions that improve the security posture in a standardized way. This involves creating libraries for standardized security functions, proof-of-concept code, and foundational changes to enable the Azure Database platform to operate securely.
  • Cross-organization collaboration – The Azure Databases Infrastructure Security Team is a partner team to other Microsoft/Azure security teams that are tasked with other aspects of security like compliance, network monitoring, SDL, and Azure’s own internal red-teams. Understanding what these teams are doing, the problems they face, and working on complementary efforts is key.
  • Security Design and Architecture - The Azure Databases Infrastructure Security Team is a security team. It operates on the forefront of emerging threats which affect cloud services and infrastructure. This includes understanding the attack vectors, behaviors, and tools that are being used in the wild as well as the most modern defenses. Using this knowledge, we provide durable solutions which help all teams in Azure Databases to provide secure and trusted platforms.
