Senior Director Digital Platforms and Data
Microsoft
We’re building a centralized Digital Platform & Data team to ensure consistent, privacy-safe instrumentation across our digital experiences (Web, App, Social, and Paid Media). This Senior Director, Digital Platforms & Data role is a product + engineering leadership position. The ideal candidate is a technical leader who can operate across front-end and back-end architectures, translate measurement needs into solution designs and architecture diagrams, and drive implementation through engineering teams and delivery partners. This leader will own end-to-end instrumentation enablement-tagging, pixels, analytics taxonomy, data-layer alignment, consent-aware controls, governance, and vendor execution-so every campaign and customer journey produces reliable, standardized signals for analytics, activation, and experimentation. The scope requires depth in modern digital platform patterns (e.g., headless), CMS ecosystems, API-driven experiences, and the systems behind them. The team builds the foundation that enables measurement, reporting, and growth teams to operate on trusted data at scale.
Microsoft’s mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. As employees we come together with a growth mindset, innovate to empower others, and collaborate to realize our shared goals. Each day we build on our values of respect, integrity, and accountability to create a culture of inclusion where everyone can thrive at work and beyond.
In alignment with our Microsoft values, we are committed to cultivating an inclusive work environment for all employees to positively impact our culture every day.
Responsibilities
- Own the end-to-end signal collection architecture across our digital platforms primarily Web and App including data flows, integration points, and scalable solution designs that work across modern web stacks (front end + back end).
- Define, standardize and govern implementation patterns for instrumentation, including tag managers, pixels, SDK event collection, and server-side patterns (where applicable), ensuring consistency, performance, and reliability across experiences.
- Lead taxonomy and data layer alignment by establishing canonical event standards, naming conventions, required parameters, and versioning-ensuring signals are reusable across measurement, activation, and experimentation.
- Drive platform governance and engineering rigor through reference architectures, design reviews, release readiness criteria, and enforcement of standards (including exception handling) so teams ship instrumentation that is compliant and durable.
- Set the product/engineering roadmap for the digital signals platform, prioritizing foundational capabilities, technical debt reduction, and scaling to new surfaces while balancing speed, quality, and enterprise constraints.
- Partner deeply with engineering teams, CMS/platform owners, and analytics stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical specifications and executable plans; act as a technical escalation point for complex integration and instrumentation decisions.
- Lead execution through a blended team model (FTE + vendor partners), ensuring delivery quality, clear ownership, and measurable outcomes across high-volume instrumentation requests.
- Embody our culture and values.
