Overview

Microsoft’s Cloud business continues to scale at an unprecedented pace, and the Cloud Supply Chain organization plays a critical role in enabling the infrastructure behind that growth. Our mission is to ensure the right part is in the right place, at the right time, at the right cost and quality, supporting seamless data center uptime globally.

We are seeking a dynamic and strategic Director of Network Spares Sourcing & Supply to lead the global Networking spares strategy and operational execution. This newly created leadership role will define the long term roadmap for Network sparing, drive portfolio decisions, strengthen supplier performance, and build operational capabilities that support Microsoft’s cloud expansion.

Success in this role requires strong business and technical acumen, the ability to lead cross functional teams through complexity, and a passion for delivering supply chain resilience at cloud scale.



Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

  • Develop and own Microsoft’s global Network Spares strategy to enable data center reliability and long term scalability.

  • Guide executive decision making on portfolio priorities, investment tradeoffs, and risk mitigation across NW sparing.

  • Benchmark industry practices and introduce outside innovation to enhance Microsoft’s Cloud Supply Chain.

Operational Excellence

  • Lead end to end sourcing and supply operations for Networking spares, ensuring system, tool, and process readiness across near, mid, and long term horizons.

  • Drive the rhythm of business including governance, KPI management, program tracking, and cross functional alignment.

  • Oversee the accuracy of product lifecycle foundations including install base, BOMs, FRUs, and ECO management.

  • Optimize global logistics footprint and supply chain flows to reduce cycle time, cost, and operational risk.

Supplier & Partner Management

  • Build and manage strategic supplier relationships to ensure strong RMA performance, depot inventory health, and operational compliance.

  • Lead escalation management for RMA delays, establishing clear processes and engagement protocols across teams.

  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to drive improvements in repair/refurbishment operations and contractual performance.

Team Leadership

  • Build and develop a high performing organization with a culture of collaboration, accountability, and operational excellence.

  • Coach and mentor team members, ensuring clarity of priorities, role expectations, and professional growth.



Qualifications

Minimum qualifications:
Master's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Materials Science, or related field AND 6+ years experience in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, engineering, operations, or relevant sales-related roles OR Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Materials Science, or related field AND 8+ years experience in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, engineering, operations, or relevant sales-related roles OR equivalent experience.

Other Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to, the following specialized security screenings:
• Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Doctorate in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Materials Science, or related field AND 5+ years experience in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, engineering, operations, or relevant sales-related roles OR Master's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Materials Science, or related field AND 8+ years experience in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, engineering, operations, or relevant sales-related roles OR Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Materials Science, or related field AND 12+ years experience in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, engineering, operations, or relevant sales-related roles OR equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years of people management experience.
  • 10+ years of experience in spares supply chain, network/optics operations, or manufacturing, ideally within high tech environments.
  • Proven success delivering medium-to-large scale programs in mission-critical industries, particularly Networking and Optics.
  • Experience optimizing supplier performance and leading global capability improvements.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to drive insights and collaboration across global teams.
  • Deep knowledge of forward/reverse logistics, contract manufacturing, repair/refurbishment operations, and supply chain systems (ERP, CRM).
  • Strong understanding of product lifecycle management, including BOM maintenance and ECO processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross functional programs and balance technical and business considerations.
  • Exceptional communication, executive presence, and influence skills.

Sourcing Engineering M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $139,900 - $274,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $188,000 - $304,200 per year.
